I showed five herding breeds to this gentleman. He was very pleasant to all exhibitors, quick to chuckle, smile. He was very kind to the dogs, patient with puppies and nervous animals. Unfortunately, I can not say what he looks for in a dog. He consistently missed the good ones, rewarding dogs that would normally be middle packers (2,3,4th placers. Did not seem to be keyed in to the finer points of the breeds (barely touched the heads on Collies for example), went for coarse heads in breeds that called for chiseling and detail. Tossed out elegance in a breed where it is in the firs sentence of the standard. Movement didn't seem to play much of a part, as the animals rewarded were all over the map from no side gate to some to lots, poor come/go to adequate, to good. I would show a young or inexperienced dog to him for a good experience. I would not go in to his ring expecting him to find the best example of the breed.

A joy to show to and watch. Judges dogs! He gave the breed to a class dog or bitch in at least 5 breeds I watched and also gave a group placement to a class dog. Doesn't care who is handling. Likes a nice mover.
