Ms Mounce was quite friendly and chatty with everyone in her ring. I am a new person to the conformation ring and she was patient and kind. She didn't find my girl (#1 NOHS in our breed) for top honors but she did place her SB. The line up was a mix of pro and OH. I would show to her again and see if the ppl posting not so kind reviews were just sour abt results. I found her to be quite pleasant to show to.

I'd had a rather negative experience with her years ago so had low expectations today. We were the only entrant in the breed, so can't speak to her decision-making, but she was pleasant, chatty, and VERY patient with my young puppy in his second weekend out. I left the ring happy.

Pretty lazy, didn't watch the dogs, missed the good ones, put up handlers. DNS

She is extremely consistent - to the wrong end of the lead.

Don't waste your money. On my up and back she had her back to me and doing something at the table. I paid to have my dog judged win or lose. Several people have mentioned the same complaint. She has no interest in judging dogs.

I shown to her several times over the last 10 years, after first time it was bad experience almost knocking the dog off the table with her pat and thankfully I was able to get the dog over that and this was solid dog on the table nothing brother her. I only showed one dog to her, that could careless what you did to him on the table and she seem to like him if she was judge in middle of show circuit. But I took chance enter young dog that only been shown twice and young special, she was very pleasant nice with the dogs and did put class dog for bov over highly ranked dog in the breed. and put mine up for select. pretty much put breeder handlers and seems to like a nice mini but the one that beat us that day was really wire. so she been very nice and pretty consistent in her choices the last 2 times I shown to her. I did hear she had some kind of surgery after the first experience with her when I thought she ruined young dog, so maybe she was in pain that weekend. but last couple times was pleasure to show too. hoping this last couple times were not flukes and the one bad time was the fluke.

Denny Mounce can be hit or miss. Either she is on for judging or she is off. We have shown to her several times. She was definitely ON for this day. She was friendly, easy to understand, did a good exam and made some good choices. I do think she prefers to put up mature dogs over puppies, as I cannot recall her ever putting up a puppy for placement if an Open class entry was available.

Just take a look at all the "1" ratings. Like a fool , I ignored them. After she spent 5 minutes chatting with a handler, I knew what to expect. Absolutely the worst judge I have ever exhibited to. Do yourself and your dog a favor and avoid her like the plague!
Oct 20, 20151AnonChihuahua
Showed under Denny this past weekend and even though I won I think it is the last time. Spent way too much time chatting with all the handlers, Made numerous inappropriate remarks and actually judged some dogs while sitting in a chair. If you want any chance to make it to groups hire a handler well known to her or don't waste your money.

Go back and study the standard. Also IWH's are not leaning posts. Will not show to again.

Rude and she thinks she is funny. Never stops talking , but not a friendly judge. She thinks she is amazing. Save your money. I couldn't wait to get out of her ring and she gave my bitch BOB.

I started showing dogs at age 8 ---50 years ago ... Best day at a dog show EVER yesterday. I had read these scary comments. Mounce was the 3rd day & everybody warned me to pull my stubborn non-walking puppy. Break the major !!! I showed the normal acting puppy ...held my breath and handed the problem dog to a friend. Ms.Mounce examined and moved the "good puppy" Then she said stand halfway down. Examined the "problem puppy" walked down and stood next to me "Call him" he happily trotted to us. We went to the table "Call him " he trotted back. Like magic ! I see why she was a top handler. Give her a chance I am SO glad I did !!!

Extremely rude to exhibitors who are NOT professional handlers...actually was not watching any dogs, just picked the professional handler she liked personally best. It was a completed was of time and MONEY! Would NEVER show to her again! I am embarrassed for AKC for having a judge such as Ms. Denny C. Mounce!

Rude to exhibitors and ring steward.... Friendly to pros in ring. Very political...didn't even give my special a look although superior to the pros... Why bother?
Mar 27, 20154KevinCoton De Tulear
We showed our rare breed to her in Midland, TX. She was very pleasant, we had a major in bitches and she picked the two best ones for WB/BOB and RES. She was gentle with the dogs, pleasant with the exhibitors. There were no Pros in the ring though. I got a good look in the group with my 11 month old but whe went with all Pros, worth showing to again.

Has NO idea what a dachshund is supposed to look like. I showed my smooth mini male to her who was only a few singles from finishing and who had one the breed every other day in this 5 day show weekend over a large entry. She gave him 2/1 and pulled me aside to say he was barely recognizable as a dachshund. Then in the bitch class ring she went on to put up his litter mate, who is his exact twin, over a large entry NO CLUE!!!

showed to her and won- she did find the correct dogs but -she really did not want to be there did not seem happy to be judging my breed-will not seek her out

Have shown to her multiple times - she finds the good dog, in SPITE of the handlers doing their shenanigans.
Aug 12, 20131Italian Greyhound FancierItalian Greyhound
She is rude, looks some where else while everyone (except the handler) is gaiting their dogs, and she even looks and is talking somewhere else when giving the ribbons out. My IG was standing on the table in an exceptible manner and she walked up and picked my IG completely up off the table and tilted it like it was a Peke. She did this so fast I was unable to stop this from happening. What followed is that she freaked my bitch out so much that the next 2 days show was impossible and it has taken me months to get my girl to recover and stand solide to be examined on the table. I will never show again to this obviously disinterested, misinformed, rude individual. I will not allow her another chance to ruin one of my dogs.
Jun 17, 20134AnonBeagle
We almost didn't bother showing to this judge because of all of the bad public judge notes posted here, and consistently bad at that. But as they say "you can't win if you don't show" and we decided to give her ONE try ourselves. Also knowing that she was once a top handler in our breed we were curious what she'd do...I am thrilled to say that we had a great experience and that she put our owner handled 14 mo. old Beagle male up for BOV with my daughter (not a seasoned handler) over a skilled and obvious pro with a nice Beagle too. Not only that but she gave my daughter and her dog a G4 in a top ranked Hound Group!! She commented to another handler during pictures that our dog was a super nice Beagle and that she loved his bone. The judge does not know us, has never seen us before, and had no reason to reward my daughter and our dog other than she truly liked him and he is a truly nice Beagle, one of the best that I have bred. So my public judge note honestly must say that on the day she found a good Beagle, she was very pleasant, and she "just judged the dogs."

I also showed to her recently, and I swear that was the last time!!! I have a top ranked dog in the breed, but am an OH, that does a very capable job of presenting a dog. Went into a specials class that was weak at best, didn't matter. The other entries had handlers on them, she spent her time chatting with the handlers, totally ignoring my entry. I have no problem if the best dog wins, but how do we know the best dog won, when she didn't do anything more than a cursory look at my dog on the table. someone has looked at the entries she gets at shows, and clubs would be wise to look at these numbers. On average, her entry is down 30% over the other days on a circuit for the same breeds. Dont waste your $$$$

Have shown to this judge many times. Have won. Have lost. This time she seemed to be somewhere else, tired, and lack lustre in her choices and ring performance. She seems to be a judge that is either bang on, and rocking the ring, or she is simply NOT.

Show under this judge many times. She is fair snd knows the standards.

Watched her judge a group today. Yes, she was gruff, no nonsense but very clear about what she wanted in her ring procedure and didn't seem at all nasty though I expect she could be if her instructions aren't followed. Just don't expect smiles, friendly, warm. All business and wants what she wants.

Ms Mounce did a good job, picking a consistent type. perhaps a bit distracted at times, but during the weekend i saw many instances of concentration, patience and good effort with dogs who were less than co-operative about showing. Will always give her an entry, win, or loose.
Mar 31, 20131Adrienne FreyerVizsla / Golden RustExpert!
About 3 years ago she hit my specials bitch so hard over her withers while "going over her" that Mounce literally knocked the wind out of my girl. Mounce was in the middle of the Scottsbluff KC shows this weekend. I really did not want to show to her agin, but I didn't want to break the pt. SO, as she lumbered over my 10 month old puppy bitch, I told her, "It's this puppy's' first show weekend." her reply, "Oh, she a seasoned show dog,, now" WTH?! At least she didn't knock the wind out of this puppy... NEVER AGAIN will I show to her!!!!! She also spent most of the time looking at her watch & chatting with the ring stewards & telling the exhibitors how important it is to have good stewards.

Looks bored in the ring. Often can be found looking outside the ring rather than the exhibits in her ring.

Good judge. Not sure about the other comments. She was good with young puppies and fun to show too.
Jul 9, 20121BTBoston Terriers
This is one of the worst judges I've ever shown to. She was more interested in talking to handlers in the ring behind her, she barely moved in ring, just about sitting on the judges table the whole time and on the down and back, on the way back the exhibitor had no judge standing there rather she was at the table getting the ribbion. She didnt look at the dogs at all! Put up completely different types all around even with a large entry and many similar in type. Movement was not a factor as some of her picks did not move well, either hitching or pacing the whole time. Seemed as though the number of entries given to her played a part in her picks as there were no handlers in the ring. She was also very heavy handed with all the dogs on the table, squeezing and lifting up their skin on their backs? Not sure why she did that but many of the dogs did not like it especially the pups. There are too many reasons to put this judge on my DNS list, wasted my time and my money. The clubs need to look here prior to hiring these judges!!
Jan 15, 20121anonymouspoms
Just judged one of our local specialties. Many exhibitors were disconcerted by the speed with which she blasted through the entry, barely seeming to take time watching or considering each dog in the large classes. Many noted she would look away from the dogs while they were gaiting etc. Her method of making class placements was confusing as she frequently pulled a dog from the middle of the line out to the front, then proceeded to pull another dog, or two and place them in front of it, before moving them again. Rather cruel to pull someone out front if you are already planning to give them 2nd or 3rd, in my opinion. Pull them in the order you are planning to place them! Gave WD and WB to pros despite a large entry of nice owner handled dogs, but was consistent in favoring taller, more refined, plainer faced (foxier vs short wedgy muzzles) style poms in good coat, and seemed to maybe like light/cream colors as her two winners were both that color. She didn't seem to like that type as much if they were quite small however. my best guess in poms - show her something up on leg and more foxy, not short wedgy and "cute", and not something small or lower on leg, as she seems to look for that type only and doesn't give much consideration to dogs of good overall quality but a different type except as a last resort. If they are not her type I don't think she will use them no matter how outstanding. just based on one experience ...

I do not want to go on and on about what everyone has already stated. So simply put, I couldn't agree more with every negative review on here. If she is in the middle of a circuit I will sit her day out.
May 22, 20111anonmany
Continues to be the single worst judge I have ever seen watched and I wish the rest of the kennel clubs would get a clue and stop hiring her.
May 10, 20113anonymousDachshunds
Have shown to her before several years ago but after the last time I will never show to her again. Do not take a young dog or pup to show to her she will ruin it with her heavy hands She does not know the difference from a pat on the rump vs spanking the dog on the rump. she is a very rude judge who took delight in dumping the number one dog for a friends dog. breed Dachshunds -seem to like mini wires with tuck ups and chest like sight hounds in wires bithces were there was a major, would only show a mini wire to her, seem to be really heavy handy with the standards

Denny needs to give up judging and do something she likes. She obviously HATES judging. She is rude to the exhibitors, rough on the dogs, and gives the general impression she either hates what she is doing or that she is so superior to those who have PAID FEES to show to her that she is just there to give us the benefit of her presence. On my DNS list. Very political...does not care about the dog only the handler.
Jun 17, 2010kellyboston terrier
also on my DNS list despite having won with one of my 2 entries. very cursory exam, little interest in watching the dogs move. BOB and BOS were as diametrically opposed in type as possible. Seemed to be rushing through her assignments just to get them over with.
May 24, 20101anon
On my DNS list only because her ring procedure and presence is unpleasant. I've never been at a show where people were afraid to speak above a whisper outside of the ring. The term brisk is un understatement when used to describe her style of judging. I felt bad for those who were the only exhibitor in their class. Upon entering the ring, they were told to proceed to the table. After a very quick exam, the exhibitor was told to go half way down the digaonal, As the dog stopped in front, the exhibitor was handed the ribbon and shown the gate. While she did put up a handler BOB today, I didn't feel she was looking for handlers to award.

Not sure I can add more than what is already written. This is the most arrogant rude judge I have ever shown to. Rough on the dogs. Does not pay attention to the dogs going around. Seems bored and more interested in the other rings.
Apr 13, 20101Robin GatesTerriers and Bostons
She is on my DNS list. She is gruff and makes the whole experience uncomfortable. She prefers her buddies and I am truly not sure why she is still judging. **UPDATE** She did it again putting up yet another dog that did not deserve the recognition. The worst part is she does it as if to say, "Try to tell me I picked the wrong dog...I am superior to you all." I will now no longer enter under any Kennel Club that hires this judge. She makes the political judges look fair and impartial.

Will NEVER get an entry from me or my clients. She tryies to be personable & freindly, but it is so obvious its just fake. She is VERY heavy handed and will not tolerate untrained puppies. She can be very rude to exhibitors. I feel she should have her judges license taken away because it certainly isnt going to get any better. Do yourself an favor, dont waste your money on entering under her unless you are willing to hire a very well know face.

Not worth your entry fee. Minimal judging, only looks for the pros in the ring regardless of quality (or lack thereof) of the dog.
Aug 26, 20071SunclipseNon Sporting
Sat next to her at a recent show. Listened to her talk for an hour straight. Opinionated, she defines the word. Knows all of the players, and plays to them. If you advertise, will do well, if you are a handler & advertise, you will do better. That said, she does know a good dog, BUT, the question is, will she use it??
Aug 24, 20075WOW Pomz & Pinzvarious Toy BreedsExpert!
I have found she does a good job in the Toy Breeds I show. She has sought a typey sound dog of medium size and wants a masculine handsome dog and feminine pretty bitch. I have heard repeatedly how heavy handed she is and just haven't found that the case and I've taken her seasoned dogs and first time pups and they have all had a nice experience. She hasn't been at all unreasonable about her expected behavior of my pups and has been very patient sometimes long after my patience wore thin. I've been told she has breeds that she just hates (and judges) but she has always been very complimentary and attentive to every exhibit I've brought her and I've taken her dogs from breeds she is supposed to hold in distain.

This judge is truly horrible. I dont say this just because I lost, becuase I didnt. But she is very heavy handed with puppies and actually made the comment while my dog was onthe table that she hates this breed. I will NEVER show to her again

My experience with her was that she did what she wanted. Wanted dogs well trainer/presented. Put up a relatively unknown owner/handler for 5 pt specialty win over several well known pros.

Doesn't seem to pay attention to dogs in ring. Appears to have a pre-determined opinion. Will not show under this judge.

She'll put up a Junior handler over a professional if she likes the dog, even in group competition. Seems to looks for balance, movement. Likes a dog to be well presented. Also, with regard to the comment by 'anonymous' on April 7, this judge is a woman, not a man as you indicate. Recently exhibited to Ms. Mounce (2017) as it's been several years since the last time. I'm disappointed. While watching her from ringside, I saw her motion to an exhibitor for a down & back. As soon as the handler started moving, she turned her back & didn't watch. I was a lone entry in my breed and she didn't examine my dog, as she had just examined her in OH group. She argued with the steward about examining my bitch and then asked me, "Didn't I just examine her in OH?" Talk about awkward! Anyway, she's probably a DNS now.
Jun 13, 20074CelebrateDachshunds
Put up a very nice class dog over some nice specials. Seems to do as she pleases. Contrary to the "political" statements others have made, she put this dog up with an unknown handler over two "pros".
May 24, 20073Anon.Cavaliers
Political; put up a very large, ungainly bitch that was extremely heavily marked because it was owned (and shown) by a well-known judge. Was overheard commenting afterwards to this judge how she loved the outfit worn by the fellow judge the last time she saw her. Definitely looks for "faces." Also RUSHED through ring time; had large gaps of space between each breed. During judging I heard an observer on the sidelines say something to the effect of it was obvious who would get the wins that day because of who was showing (the breeder judge mentioned above). I will NEVER show to this judge again.
Apr 20, 20071Kwala-t ChowsChows
Save your money - she only finds the pro in the ring. She wouldn't know a good dog if it fell on her. To be fair - if she would ALL the exhibitors it probably wouldn't be as bad, but most of the time she's watching something in another ring.
Apr 7, 20074anonymouspoms
This judge is one who is lloking for someone he knows, watched ranked specials take a walk, to put up one of the "boys", however he did put up color
