Be prepared to do an unusual ring pattern, and spend some time waiting while he does exam on table. I honestly think he was counting my dogs ribs! He had quite a competitive run-off between 2 excellent SL males for BOB. The PH's on them hadn't worked that hard since Westminster! I appreciate that he crossed over my puppy boy(only class entry)so he would get a single pt. This judge seems to know Dachshunds, and is looking for hallmarks of the breed.

a bit shaky on the exam which could be off putting to less confident dogs. Did evaluate the dog and doesnt default to Pro handlers, but if the pro has the better dog, they will prevail.

I have watched him on several occasions. He is not political - although it helps to be a pretty girl. He is not knowledgeable about breed type at all, not does it seem that he is demanding great movement. I find him a bit of a crap shoot.

Agree with previous comments, will skip the next circuit they're judging at.

Pick a dog for WD terrible top line drop down 3 inches Handler . Handler WB Handler. Handler special. Try to ack like he was interested in another special made them stack together felt shoulders. There was no need . The special that won all 4 days. From the south. Has 3 o 4 wrinkles on his shoulders. I believe that may tell you by looking at the dog. There is a mechanical issue. But it made for a good show. Definetly handler oriented . And out up dog with faults that were obvious. K SA RA LA RA

Poor, unless you have a top handler, and it is very obvious

As previously stated, a face judge, don't waste your money.

Before selecting BOB, Mr. Berrios went to the judges table to look at his notes. His picks?? 1.2.3 and 4 ALL HANDLERS. Do not waste your time or money on this superpolitical judge.

Will never show to this judge again. Clearly didn't know our breed and put up a poor representation. Very disappointed.

In entries filled with less than steller dogs, Mr. Berrios clearly favored the pro handlers. When there were outstanding owner handled dogs, he was able to find them. Given that it is more difficult to sort lesser quality, he still did not seem to have a handle on breed hallmarks in several of the sporting breeds. He nearly gave a class Pointer breed over several outstanding specials bitches, but settled for BOS at the end. Should not have even been a question.

Mr. Berrios is provisional in my breed. He was thorough in his exam, and easy with the dogs. There was a small entry of good to excellent quality (0-2-3-1), all but one owner-handled. The class bitch went up over the bitch special for BOS. His BB & SEL were of similar quality & could have gone either way on another day. He definitely chose the typiest dogs, then sorted by movement. I will bring him typey entries in the future.

Have seen him give the BREED OVER SPECIALS (two of them in the top 20 for the breed) to a 4 year old class bitch that had previously not been able to finish solely because a friend of his was handling her. After that he was put on my DNS list.

Mr. Berrios is a provisional judge for Wolfhounds and that might explain why he allowed an exhibitor and his family's comments ring side to influence his decision concerning the hound I was showing. And, I might add, he was the only competition in the ring that day because all the other hounds entered were from their kennel. Mr. Berrios dismissed the hound I was showing stating that he was a very nice boy but would need to be excused because he was limping on his left rear. Since the grounds around the ring were littered with tiny pine cones, I immediately checked the underside of the paw and found nothing. As I exited the ring, several of the Deerhound exhibitors waiting for their ring time asked what the judge said to me. When I told them they were surprised and stated that they had not seen any limping but quite the contrary that the hound was moving soundly and quite nicely for such a large boy. So, I asked several handlers to observe the dog gaiting up and back and around the area and not a single one saw any sign of a limp or even the hint of a flaw in his gait. When the other exhibitor and his crew came out of the ring, he and his family all said that they saw my hound limping. No surprised that their hounds took BOB, WD, and BOS!!! He'll be on my DNS list.

Wow! This man is still a movement & structure judge. I'll also add excellent ring procedure with a large specialty entry. He'll continue to get entries from me.

Pleasant to show to, good hands on the dogs. Seemed to prefer a dog up on leg with a big side gait.

Simply the worst judging that I have seen. Wasn't even political, just didn't know what he was doing. A pro handler that took WD was furious about his choices as the right dogs clearly were over looked. Talk ringside with other pros said that he slaughtered most of the breeds he judged and so did his wife. It was discussed with club members and they will not be asked back to judge again.

Chose poor quality exhibits contrary to the breed standard. Steep croups and showmanship seemed to be the only consistency.

I couldn't disagree more with the last comment. A very pleasant man to show to & wonderful to the dogs. He really focused on movement & type.

Seemed to take his judging very seriously and rewarded good movement and expression.

I think he is working on it. Still has a way to go but he is getting more assignments and hopefully he will continue to grow in his knowledge. Maybe gets lost in minutia or single points of a dog and looses the overall picture?

Really works to understand his breeds and do a good job of evaluating his entry. Continues to seek educated opinions even after he is approved for a breed. Fair to all exhibitors.
