Consistent with dog and bitch selections put up dog and bitch litter mates for BOB & BOS.
Feb 19, 20245RocklandChow and Sevreal others
Consistent ring procedure, quiet and attentive to each entry, pays attention to the others in the ring. Saw no preference for prof handlers, his selections were often to the contrary. Will select from the class for breed. Tolerant with puppies and inexperienced handlers and rewards the appropriate dog/bitch.

Clearly couldn't decide between two specials for best of breed, both dogs were handled well, handlers both very skilled. Went back and forth repeatedly between the two dogs. Finally, he went back to check his judge's book (NOT the standard), saw that one dog was marked with the Owner-Handler's asterisk, so he then gave it to the pro-handler with the lesser-quality dog rather than put up the better dog with an OH. He pointed to the pro and said you're best of breed, then pointed to the OH and said you're select and owner-handled, so he obviously KNEW that point.

Read all the descriptions and expected nothing... But... Wouldn't place those dogs any different then he did. Really nice surprise. I'm an OH .

Mr. Richardson judged a 4-6 month puppy event recently. He doesn't give you time to even get your dog on the table much less set up before he's on top of them. Many puppies pulled away from him. He isn't unpleasant, just rushed. I didn't disagree with his placements but I wouldn't recommend taking puppies to him or dogs who aren't rock solid for exam.

This judge has always been on my DNS list. He was judging the terrier group this past weekend and since I went I decided to stay for group.. big mistake, barely went over dogs, the day before he sat outside the terrier ring watching all the dogs that he would be judging the next day including this pose in group, he didn’t have any assignments Saturday, hung out with all the PH on Saturday as well. Don’t give that man an entry!!!

Was obviously uninterested in judging, barely watched any of the dogs except for 1 that was on a pro. awarded specials with the worst feet I've ever seen. Don't waste your money.

Save your money and do not enter under this judge. Small entry and his picks were inconsistent and made zero sense. He needs to revisit out standard

Definitely save your money.....previous posters were spot on. In a small entry, he could have cared less about the dogs and simply looked for faces.

Mr. Richardson had the honor of judging a Veteran's Hound Group and he could not have been less interested in the old dogs. He barely touched my GCh DC, did not examine his bite, and turned to chat with the steward when I started my down & back. I stopped and waited until he gave my dog the attention he deserved. I find that kind of behavior unacceptable, rude & insulting to the exhibitors. Thank goodness he doesn't judge my breed.
Jun 14, 20151Owner handler Great Dane
Now on the very top of my DNS list. Dumped my special who took a group 1 the day before to class bitch who happened to have a very popular pro handler on her.

I have to admit that when we had a judge change to Mr. Richardson, I almost asked for my money back. Based on what I have read here, I thought it was all over for us. But, I drove a long way, so what the heck? A very well known handler was in the ring (who had won Breed both days previous) and yet, he found my dog. I do think he honestly was looking at the dogs. I do think he thought about the ramifications of what he did, but he did it anyway. And, yes, I will show to him again. BTW, he pulled several dogs in the group and two of them very nicely presented owner-handled ones. No placement, but it was a tough group.

Pleasant to dogs and owners, and consistently able to miss the best dogs in the ring and find the recognizable faces. I rarely cry "politics" but will never show to this man again.

Will never spend my money to show under this judge! He is for sure a handlers judge, and unethical. Very unprofessional to hang out at dog shows and stay in the handlers section all day.

Knows a good dog, knows the game, knows how to play the game, knows the player. Which will he choose, the dog, the game, or the players?

SAVE your money, very, very political.
Jun 2, 20132DSBgirlKeeshond
He has stated one breeder in the breed is the premier breeder. Was obvious by the placements at Regional specialty during National week. I wouldn't waste money unless you own a dog with that kennel name.

Very nice judge, gave my 6-9 puppy WD, there were 2 Open dogs. I also got BOB with my other male, and made the cut in the Sporting group. Owner/Handler. Would show to him again.

he was my judge this wkend and showed a black & got the feeling that he does not care for blacks & he definitely looks at the other end of the lead.
Jul 17, 20124anonTerriers
Consistent picks and put thought into his selections. Will show to again.

Understands breed type, structure and movement, and will reward a good package. Pleasant in the ring.

Nov 2010 - He'd been assigned to judge a "Veteran's Exhibition" working group. He said to the steward out loud as he entered the ring, "what am I supposed to do here?", sounding quite annoyed. He then proceeded to put up all handlers, getting this special group done as quickly as he could. DNS list for me, I was disgusted I'd waited all day for this insult.

Pleasant ring manner, patient with the dogs and thorough in his exam. Knows movement and appreciates breed type in this breed. Probably more "political" when you get to Group, but seems to find the good ones at the breed level at least.

Would not show to him. He will put up a friend instead of a good dog. He gave breed to an 8mos puppy who was it's first time in the ring over a special who went Gp2 & Gp3 prior weekend. The comments were flying outside the ring. The special was very nice. He should have been totally embarrassed.

jokes with handler friends in ring. Don't waste your time unless you hire a known handler.

IMO should not hang out with pro handler buddies in the grooming area.

Knows the players and uses them. Does have a better understanding of a lot of breeds

Great to show to. Good with both seasoned and newbies!

I have found this man to be gentle with my dogs and not be afraid to put a class dog up over a special, if he believes it is better.

Have show to this judge several times. Seems sincerely interested in the breed, and learning more about it. Not afraid to use a class dog for breed if he feels it is a worthy specimen.
Oct 25, 20073Adrienne FreyerSiberians & Standard SchnauzersExpert!
Ring steward for him recently. Not really sure what he was doing with the Sibe entry. Overall quality was not great, but didn't seem to care about movement. He did do a very nice job with Standard Schnauzers, though

I have observed Mr. Richardson judge our breed several times and he has always selected dogs that are closest to the standard but will not compromise structure. He does a very nice job.

he seems to do a decent job in juniors but the big prize of BJ seems to be set up.
