Just heard that Judge Bill Cunningham had a stroke, is now at home with Hospice Care. He will probably not be judging again, certainly not in the near future. |

All I can say is that as with most judges I have been under he does not judge the dog but the handler.
He had judged my dog under a professional handler and given her a major. As a breeder-owner-handler I was excited to show to him, but he did not even look at my dog and told me to stand aside when he looked at and judged only the black poodles. He also talked to the black poodle handlers and gave them suggestions after he placed them as BOV and WB When I asked him what suggestion he had for me he simply stated that I was doing great. AND YET!!! he didn't even really look at my dog. I find that more and more AKC judges are getting senile or just plain old, look bored, or only put up the handlers they know. And yet AKC does not seem to get the message as to what is really happening in the AKC ring. I also know that more and more people are swinging over the to UKC shows. It is really fun there. |

If you're not a familiar face to him or not a pro-handler, then skip the entry...your dog's attributes or showmanship have NO interest for him. |

Always good to show to. Focuses on movement/soundness. Will put up owner handlers. |

I did not have a dog entered in Sibes, but watched the judging anyway. He did a nice job for WD. Found a decent specials bitch for BOB. But, found the most swayback & widest rear bitch for WB/BOW. I couldn't believe it. There were several good class bitches to choose from. |

Fair and thorough judge. Will put up owner handlers over pros if you bring hi m a dog deserving of the win. |

I agree with MD in that Mr. Cunningham looks for correct type and a pretty head. He awarded the BBX bitch and commented about her "lovely head". I showed to Mr. Cunningham again and he selected a dog that moved clean and sound for breed. He wanted a greyhound that wasn't as long in the body as some of the exhibits. His WB was very feminine with a very pretty face. She too was shorter in the body that many of the other bitches. |

I think he is very fair. Has put mine up and he hasn't. He knows what he wants and if you have that he will put you up in a minute. He looks for correct type with a nice head. Will look for him again. |

This judge really seems to like what he does. Takes his time and knows what he wants. Really wants a dog to use their ears and appreciates a nice headpiece. Does not care who is at the end of the lead. A good dog will get noticed. Pleasure to show to. Would look for him again. |

He knows a good dog for sure both in breed type and movement but I have found his eyes stray to find the faces also. I still think an average dog on the lead of a face will walk away the big winner over a better dog. |

Bill is consistantly a good judge. He truly cares about the sport, and is always a gentleman in the ring.
Bring a good one to him, and he'll put it up, regardless of who is at the end of the lead.

Do not bring a harlequin to this man, doesn't like them. Has out right stated that. And if you see one on a Reserve, because there was nothing else to put up. |

No more political than a large percentage of judges. He can and most of the time will find the "best" dog and will put it up. |

No handlers, two "lovely" bitches. Finally a judge who had to judge the breed and not the face. |
