Inconsistent with the type of dog he picked. Showed to this judge and the BOB was OK the select dog had a ribbon withheld and a second judge at a different show tell the handler the dog was not show quality. WD and WB were different type. Not sure what he was looking for.

Definitely rewards his fellow judges who will drive across the country to show to him.

This last show with Mr. Newton was disappointing. I've exhibited to him and also watched ringside for 18+ years. He was not up to his standard of selecting the correct dogs in each class, and was inconsistent between winners dog and bitch. In the specials class, he overlooked a very solid dog.

His judging has improved over the years. He's good with the dogs, including those who are nervous. Looks for breed type & seems to prefer smaller greyhounds. Good, steady hands.

Will use a steady, older exhibit over fractious puppies, even if of lower quality.

Mr Newton was pleasant to show to but never failed to find the handler in every class except one an OH was in unopposed. He recognizes the top handlers of our breed, chitty chatted with them. I thought he would recognise good movement, but it didn't seem to matter. Had a handler on one of mine but obviously wasn't recognizable.

Gracious judge, likes puppies, movement is his priority, gives everyone a chance and fair exam. I will enter under him when I can.

Was really looking forward to showing to this judge, based primarily on reviews but also based on picks I'd seen that he made from reviewing InfoDog records. He was, indeed, very pleasant, clearly loves the dogs, runs a good ring, and gives exhibitors lots of time to properly set up their dogs. Very kind comments to all exhibitors. However, he made an egregious and blatantly political choice in his picks so I will not be showing to him again. Very, very disappointed. I think if you have a very good dog that shows well and that you handle well, you will do very well with him unless there is a handler in the ring that he knows well and then it won't matter how good your dog is or how well you show your dog. As a post on Dog Show Judges Report Card says, "avoid if he has friends in the ring."

Interesting comment below...judge was SUPER nice to very scared girl, worked with her for several minutes until she allow exam - saved a dog right there and it was wonderful. On the judging side however, it was ALL presentation. He gave handlers as much time as they wanted to stack the dog exactly as they wanted - and I think that was the picture he used. He seemed interested in movement, but not swayed by it.

Have shown to him twice and find Mr. Newton to be very friendly and pleasant. First time I showed to him, I had WB/BOW and also RWD with a puppy over a specialty weekend. I thought, at the time, that he liked a particular type of dog…but having shown to him since, I now see that presentation and handling will carry the day with this judge (and looking back to the day I won, I can accept that my bitch and even the puppy were great "show" dogs. I don't think he judges movement or breed type, but can only say that he consistently uses the best presented and trained dogs…even in the puppy classes. I do think Mr. Newton, because he is so pleasant and focuses so much on presentation/handling, would be a fabulous junior showmanship judge.

Such a kind judge. Smiles during his entire assignment. Willing to discuss his choices with exhibitors. Even if you don't leave his ring with a ribbon you walk from the ring feeling good.

One of the nicest judges. He is very pleasant and loves his job. He actually judges the dogs and not who is holding the leash. Looks for a well put together dog with structure, balance and movement.

Very nice man. We have won under him, and lost. Pleasant, always smiling. However I couldn't tell you what he likes. Very inconsistent to say the very least. The word "Puzzling" comes to mind.

Very kind judge and very considerate. Very good to my young, inexperienced puppy. Asked exhibitors to show bites, which I greatly appreciate. Wish more would do that. I would take a puppy to him for a good experience.

Loves to judge and it shows. Movement, presentation, showiness, and a pretty face/head will win under him.

He was even worse at judging the PWDs. He put up a bitch with no substance, tail down, slinking around the ring. Everyone outside the ring could see and could not understand his placement other than it was another professional. On my DNS and DNH list.

Very pleasant to show to. LIkes a nice head. Agree with previous poster about movement but his BOB was a nice mover. Likes a larger dog.

I have to disagree with the last post as he does not know movement, at least not in our breed. Put up a bitch that has a roach for WB and his RWB was obviously lame. Can't say he was political, but his eye is just not good enough.

Have found this judge to be a pleasure to show under. He's always been pleasant, engaging and seems to be enjoying his job. He appears to look for good movement and structure.

He knows a good moving Sighthound when he sees one! He is quick yet efficient in his abilities. Likes substance, muscle tone and good bone in his males and a well put together and typey bitch. I will show to Mr. Newton again.

First time I showed to him - did an adequate job, most memorable choice was ML bitch of outstanding type with numerous virtues and one easily observed fault, shown by novice exhibitor; Newton judged the virtues, forgave the handling and the fault, and put the bitchup for a major. WD/BW was a standard, also of excellent type, no obvious faults, expertly handled. Also watched his judging at Host Specialty prior to 2012 national - dog placed and cut were consistent in style, good movers; saw no obvious poor choices. Similar placements as smooth judges at other two shows.

Save your money, he only puts up handlers or high powered breeder/handlers, it has nothing to do with the dogs. No consistency between his winners other then the same handler, gave him a clean sweep with all winners and both majors. Ridiculous! These are the kind of judges AKC needs to do something about, they are ruining this sport.

Very pleasant, but VERY inconsistent. Had the ring set up so it was near impossible to see enough sidegait for it to have been a decision factor. He IS very sweet and soft-handed with the dogs and is a great choice to show a new puppy to for a positive experience. The dogs like him!

Pleasant to show to and tolerant of a misbehaving young bitch. Movement judge.

He seems to like sound, square, typey dogs at least that is what my boy is and he gave me a gorup placement out of a lot of nice dogs. He does know the breed and remembers dogs because he knew he had not seen him at a recent specialty. He also likes quality handling. Not necessarily HANDLERS just go handling all together.

Very nice ring procedure, smiles alot. Does use handlers from the Houston area.

I found him to be very pleasant-always smiling. As ribbons were passed out he made useful, encouraging comments to several of us. He appreciates level toplines and movement.

On my DNS list. As someone else said, "clueless". Doesn't understand form follows function and what makes a good greyhound. Told me that my dual champion greyhound had "too much muscle". Duh? However, he is an excellent sculptor and very pleasant.

Save your money - clueless, however he does know 'the players'
Aug 31, 20072GYborzoiExpert!
One of the most inconsistent judges, after reveiwing his past placement no consistency to his placements, will pull average Borzoi from a sea of great dogs indifferent to type as well as quaility. Poor eye for borzoi doesn't understand lines, once and while he will get lucky and place a good representation for the breed, I wouldn't hire him
