He seems to be looking at movement. Very nice man. Pleasant to show to - somewhat inconsistent but its not easy. I would show to him if you have a nice mover and a nice head on your staffie

This judge is hit or miss. I had no connection to any of the dogs shown, but he put up a mix of good dogs and poor choices. Not looking at top-lines, movement, or markings.

Showed to him once and found him to be fair however no Pros in the ring. Will show yo him again.

FACE JUDGE, good or bad. He puts up his friends and walks those he doesn't consider friends or doesn't know. Watched him put up a dog that was stung up the entire time (never had front feet on the ground other than standing still) and then shoulder butted the handler outside the ring after we walked out and chatted him up. Walked the dog that usually wins breed and he always walks this handler for breed. Not sure why he doesn't like her but she will never win in his ring regardless of what she shows. Very predictable outcomes. If you are not a face, don't waste your entry and if you are a face, make sure he likes your face. Being an OH, he won't get my money again. Horrible ring procedure. We had large entry of specials and we were in a small ring. No one would move their dog. He should have broken the entry up and brought them in separately. Face judges don't need to see a dog move so this goes hand in hand.

Very nice judge. Enjoyed showing to him. He takes his time, gave each dog a really good look. Awarded my 9-12 puppy boy his second 5pt major. We were using a handler but several others were in the ring as well. Was pleasant with everyone, and good with the dogs. VERY snappy dresser and you can tell he enjoys what he does.

small entry so not sure what he's looking for, nice ring procedure and seems to place the best dog OH or PH. I'd trie him again,

Great man to show too... looks for good moving dog with correct structure. Can get over faces, IF not under too much of a pressure from fellow exhibitors... what clearly didn't work too well this weekend. Will give him another try. Second try update. Yes- nice with dogs. Can't get over faces. Sorry.

He is an excellent structure and movement judge.

Have only shown to this judge one other time with a minimal entry so had no real idea of what he looked for. My feeling is he definitely wants a very high stepping gait, and does not look at topline. For me these elements go hand in hand. You have to have both, not one, or the other. His BOB was excellent, but I did not agree with one of his Winners placements. He gave enough setup time, had a fair exam, and was easy to understand.

Awarded National Specialty Best of Breed to my dog (owner handled) did not give in to the political pressure. Carefully examined teeth.

Seen him award all the points to breeder handlers. Knows the standard and likes a typey Papillon.

Always pleasant but never consistent. Win sometimes other times not with the same dog placed highly in the past. Nonetheless, a very fun judge to show too.

Worth the entry. Pleasant. Knows the standards. Willing to share his thoughts about what he's seen. Great with pups.

Consummate professional: Courteous; clear instructions; focus on dog over politics; pleasant demeanor. Conversant with Cavalier breed standard, including size and grooming guidelines, proper movement, importance of eyes/expression. Appears to favor more moderate, typey dogs over larger exhibits. Will put up owner-handler if merit of dog warrants.
Mar 21, 20131anonymousterriers
Pleasant, but definitely favors the big-name male pro handlers if it's even half-way close.

very pleasant..wants a small pretty nice moving dog, he gave my dog a second chance, but he was acting way to crazy. I would show to him again!
Feb 27, 20134MudpuppyKeeshond
This judge has a very good eye, really LOOKS at the dogs, and clearly knows a good dog. I'll show to him again, even as an owner-handler.

Nice enough but all over the place.
Oct 23, 20123Robin GatesBostons
Picked very similar type and seemed to know what he liked.
Mar 28, 20124anonDoberman
At a recent specialty, he put litter mates as wb and rwb. One was professionally handled, and the other was not. Very pleasant in the ring. Will show to again.
Mar 10, 20121AnomPapillon
Unabashedly handler judge. Picked well known handler paps over many fine reprensations of breed to choose from

This Judge was very pleasant and approachable. Seemed to know what he was looking for and then reward it.
Jan 31, 20125anonymousPomeranians
Very pleasant and gentle judge, was particularly soft with my 6-9 puppy. Seemed to appreciate good movement, small size and sweet faces in this breed. There were only a few handlers in the ring but he appeared to put up what he liked. A friend of mine commented that he spotted this judge watching several other breeds after he was done judging and seemed very interested in the dogs. He gave an owner/handled special breed. So overall I found his judging very fair and would show to him again in a heartbeat.

Obviously has no clue what the breed standard is. Gave a class dog bob over one of the top 20 dogs in our breed. Know this can happen sometimes but this dogs tongue hung out to the side when he moved and his front was terribly east/west when he moved. This is really unacceptable. Must have owed someone a favor or something. Won't waste my money again.

Had a good way with dogs, thorough exam. Found nice low cobby dogs with attitude. Didn't win, but would bring him this type anyday.

Very kind with the dogs, easy going, overall very nice gentleman with a good eye for breed type and clean movement. Looks at the dog not the handler.
Apr 21, 20083Blair BarrettBoston Terrier
Tends to like smaller finer boned Bostons, but also appreciates a good side gait. Good with puppies in the ring and will tolerate a dog having a bad day on the table.

I have showed numerous times to Mr Vice, and still have no clue to what he is looking for. However, he is very pleasant to show to, great with puppies.

Really nice guy who is pleasant to show to. I think he tries ro judge well but isn't very knowledgable.
Jan 17, 20081AnonNon SportingExpert!
Mr. Vice is pretty good with beginners and seasoned exhibitors alike. Kind and gentle with puppies!

Appears to know our standard.
Sep 18, 20074Susan PlouffItalian GreyhoundExpert!
He will judge dogs and dump a face if he likes the dog well enough. If there is nothing in the ring he really falls for, he will go with the face. He knows a good dog, and is not afaid to put up a class dog for the breed. He is not very conversive in the ring, acting all business.
Sep 3, 20074Terry Rothellvarious Toy BreedsExpert!
Wants a pretty, typey dog with clean movement and breathtaking side gait and loads of attitude. He'll forgive naughty in breeds that should be busy or impish as long as it doesn't get in the way of seeing what the dog is all about and capable of. I've seen him be quite political and have seen him just look solely at the dogs even with people carrying politics in his ring.
Apr 12, 2007Tassajara Cavalierscavalier
very facey. Capable of doing a good job if no handlers are there.
Dec 11, 2006
Gives a good seminar, but doesn't walk his talk, politics gets in the way
