DNS judge for terriers. Do not walk. Run away from this judge. Out of a very large entry gave WD, WB, BOS, & BOB to the same handler at a specialty. Did not look at dogs going around. Did not spar. I can agree with the fact that he placed some extremely nice exhibits far below ones that were better overall quality who exhibited hallmarks of the breed and type. Shaking my head. Shame. I honestly, have never seen anything like this in a large entry.

I have shown to him many times and win or loose I felt he was fair in his choices. Also kind to new exhibitors.

Have shown to him several times over the years not really following his judging - but today I finally realized what he is doing - FAULT JUDGING! He made a comment almost under his breath but loud enough for me to hear about something on my entry that he didn't like. It's not a fault in our standard at all. So basically what you end up getting is a breed winner that may have some very good features which seem important to him but lacking in type and correct temperament when you look at it as a whole. He was also very late on each block today. He sat chatting for ten minutes while people stand there waving then joked about it. He also likes to put up entries from the classes over top specials. Last time I waste my time and money on this guy - he needs to retire.

Will definately put up OH and Bred By, not sure which is his favorite, as both WD and WB were OH and BBE. Likes a solid temperment and movement.

Fault judges--that's why what often ends up winning is pet quality--he eliminates the better entries on faults/flaws that are of particular importance to him (depending on the breed) and ends up with an inferior entry without virtues. No pro handlers in our ring so that wasn't it. I knew about his odd procedures b/c I'd read the commentaries here ahead of time--otherwise, I'd have had no idea what he wanted. Not even clear on pointing to placements. Not a pleasant or worthwhile experience. Won't enter under him again.

The good news is...he was NOT a handler judge in our breed. And he will put up puppies. But the bad news is this was the most inconsistent judging I've ever seen. He liked movement and free stacks but dumped the best moving class dog and gave reserve to a dog that floats his front. He likes the appearance of reach and drive, even if the dog has a rolling topline. Not particularly pleasant on this day and was rushing exhibitors, but he did a thorough hands-on exam.

This guy is a joke for a judge... Makes a big deal on the free stack in the middle of the ring! But doesn’t award the dog that nails it ! He gives BOB to tiny little dogs when our breed is a large breed . Left everyone shaking their heads and laughing it was so ridiculous! Time for this old man to retire

had an interesting pattern in NOHS grops - someone called it a tear drop. Did your down and back on the diagonal, started your around and then wanted you to free stack pretty much where your down ended. For a judge that put a bunch of value and interest on the free stack, he sure didnt award dogs that nailed it. Predictable placements - 2021 update- ring equipment issue spooked a young dog right before exam, Mr Wade allowed the dog / handler to regroup, move first and then stand for exam in a location that wasnt where the calamity happened. Watched him judge many breeds and he was thorough and kind to all in his ring.

Sorry to say he will be added to my DNS list. Put up inferior dogs and bitches handled by pro handlers when he had very typey Danes that fit the standard handled by owner handlers that were not considered. Not playing his game. His ring procedure is also a mess and confuses many. Show to a judge who knows your breed and forget this one.He does nothing for spectators except to confirm what pets look like in the ring.

Too bad I didn't see a previous note about this judge not liking color...but it must be so. he awarded a dog and bitch with pitiful movement and dumped the color/pattern entries. A breeder judge should know better!

I enjoyed showing a young Scottie bitch to him. He had a delightful sense of humor and made the bitch and me feel very comfortable in the ring. Most importantly, he knows the breed and recognizes quality.
Jun 15, 20174CFDDalmatians
My young male special won over a Top Twenty dog professionally handled, as well as another professional handler. He knows what he likes. I watched him judge a couple other breeds and watched him in groups, he didn’t seem to favor handlers over other exhibitors. If you had a quality dog, he took notice regardless of who was at the end of the lead.

I had a nice experience with him today. I own both dogs in the entry, he was polite, easily found the better one (a misbehaving puppy)

Handler judge!!! Hasn't got a clue about pems. Ring procedure was confusing & highly irregular. Put up a dog with no bone that was down in the pasterns over much better dogs. Wants dogs to enter in catalogue order and finds his winners the same way. At times he would randomly pull a dog out of the line and intersperse it w catalogue order. After reading all of the posts, it looks like he's an OK judge for terriers, not so much any other breed. On my DNS list.

Very much a handler judge. Too bad because he knows a good dog.

Handler judge, more then anything. Didn't expect any different, so gave him 3 for the first show. He was ok, but I'm not very impressed. Would like to give him another try to see what happens. Update. Second show. Still handler judge. A bit different ring procedure, so listen well how he wants his dogs. May award OH with outstanding dog, if he has a chance.

HATES COLOR! If you have anything other than a red or black and tan you will find yourself at the very end of the line. Put up sway back gawky standard puppy for WB 3pt mjr over very nice entries.
May 25, 20162anonymousworking breed
Pompous attitude, plays games. In recent judging he made a point of putting dogs in the front of the line and very deliberately leaving them out of the ribbons. Seemed to think that was a fun way to treat owner-handlers. Last entry I will be giving him.

A bit unusual ring procedure and you need to listen carefully for his instructions. He found dogs of very similar type for his picks so was very consistent. The WB was a 9 month old puppy, so he will consider younger dogs.

Mixed feelings about this judge. Wouldn't show a young dog to him as he didn't consider younger animals, his focus seemed to be on the open classes. He placed the same handler with WD and WB but they were both lovely dogs. His ring manor was gruff and he demanded his Breed ring in number order. It was a very hot day and he did allow people to seek shade during the down time which was a relief. However when they returned an owner handler tried to come in, in armband order and he was so rude to her and told her no I don't want it that way I want this bitch in front of you. It added to a bit of confusion and his pointing and loud voice really upset the owner handler. It was rather uncalled for. He can find a decent dog on a handler so would consider having a handler show my dogs.

Have shown to him 3x, two entries each time, and watched other classes. Prefers sables. Wants confident entries, does unusual ring patterns. Be watchful. Can't figure out what he wants.

Be aware he may ask you to free stack your dog, so be prepared to do so. The first two times I showed to Mr. Wade I had the same experience. Ranked dog in both breed and all breed points (owner handled to those rankings) did not even get watched on go around in Group. Third try, showed to him again for breed. He commented on what a nice dog he was. Group judge tomorrow. Will see. Update: Group placement of Owner Handler in a very competitive Terrier Group. So, he can find an owner handler. His comments during photo were spot on about what was correct according to breed standard. I will try him again. So glad to see that he is looking at dogs. We need more of that. I believe this judge is intelligent and tries hard to be familiar with breed standards. He is a man of integrity. Update: If big handler shows up, beware. Kindly explained why he put handler's dog up over my top ten ranked dig the past two years. I took this seriously. But his explanation did not hold water. Too many breeders were watching who verified his rationale was unfounded. Draw your own conclusions. 😟

Nice judge, good with young dogs and puppies although he seems to judge by his own standard regardless of the breed. Placements determined by handler, not worth an entry fee.

Put up dogs with poor movement, participants bragged he was "their" judge

Thought he did a very thorough exam; seemed to put up proper breed type. Will show to him again.
Nov 18, 20131Owner HandlerGreat Dane
VERY much a handler judge, didn't even consider any of the OH's in the ring.
Nov 17, 20132AnonDoberman
For breed he put dogs in catalog order which is just annoying. He judged just the champions before bringing in WD and WB which was okay except he excused champions before bringing WD and WB back in. He only kept one bitch special so he didn't keep a bitch for breed/select or opposite/select. He ended up giving WB BOS but what if she had been lame when she came back in the ring? Very odd thing to do for a former AKC rep.

Mr. Wade is pleasant & easy to show to. He's good with the dogs. He did an OK job in Greyhounds the time I showed to him. I'd show to him again, but I'd not travel far for the experience.

Pleasant and easy to show under. Patient and understanding. Fair judging.
May 22, 20081anonymous in CalifWorking Dogs
Handler, handler, handler. If you're a well-known handler, you will do very well under this judge. Otherwise, not worth the entry. No emphasis at all on movement. Doesn't watch the dog move. I've shown to him three times, and all handlers were put up.
Apr 23, 2008AnonymousParson Russell Terrier
He put my special up 4 times BOB, 3x with a famous handler and 1x with me, saying he remembered the dog from that handler. Recently, he put up another dog mine had beatten before, when neither my handler nor I was showing my special (we had a substitute well-known handler). So, I am wondering if he looks up the lead. I generally like him and will give him another shot.
Jan 14, 2008KayPWD
Even though he dismissed my dog after going over him did not bother to watch him go around. On the last go around had all the other dogs go and left me standing. Would never show to him again.

Does what he wants, he can be tough if you are screwing up a dog he likes but when he likes it, he likes it and will try to get you to do it right. He is congenial and I enjoy showing to him.
