She didn't care for anything I brought her in Smooths or Longs. Put up the predictable PH's. I'll give her another chance, but I wasn't impressed so far.

Watched all three coats judged at Westminster this year. The word that sticks out is INCONSISTENT. Her awards were all over the place. Once you thought you saw what she liked, she would choose something with completely different type and virtues/faults. Because of this I like some of her awarded dogs but I also saw extremely beautiful dogs left in the line (better than those chosen for awards) left completely out of consideration. So I can’t say if she loved movement or the stacked picture, toplines or heads. I did see dogs awarded with poor toplines, short upper arms, high tail sets, no reach and drive. With the selection available she should have been able to find enough dogs with an abundance of virtues than she did. I think she was thinking too much about who was the top dog, did I give this or that person a piece of the action, etc. Out of 20 awards in dachshunds as a whole I would guesstimate that about 60 % were pretty good but she could have done better.

She is very consistent in her likes - and it has nothing to do with the 2 footed end of the leash - at least not in RRs. I saw her put up the same bitch 3 different times (twice for 5 point majors in the classes, once for BOS over lots of very nice specials) with 3 different handlers - a total newbie, the breeder and a professional handler. This was with long periods of time in between. Wasn't my favorite, but was a moderate sound bitch that wasn't overdone in any direction. I think that is usually what she favors. I think she can be a tad heavy handed with puppies, but they usually deal with it okay.

The show: Donner Trail KC, Roseville, CA, Saturday 10/4/2014 The entry: 7-14-3-4 Disclaimer: We were awarded Select and OH Best of Breed. Our Experience: Mrs. Hiltz was friendly to exhibitors and dogs alike. Her examination was very gentle but thorough. Her instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The day we showed to her judging included the National Owner-Handler Series competition. After having seen several judges completely mishandle the process, I was thrilled to see that Mrs. Hiltz both understood what she needed to do and communicated with the ring steward so that everything went smoothly. She was also very willing to provide feedback on our girl after judging. I would gladly give her an entry in the future. The Winners: Best of Breed went to the #1 BT in the country, a professionally handled, compact but substantial black and white boy who oozes “look at me!” Winners Bitch/Best of Winners was an owner handled bitch from the 15-20 pound class, substantial but not bully in body with a soft, feminine face and very expressive eyes. Best Opposite was an agent handled bitch, very similar in structure and expression to the winners bitch, but bit more “showy” in temperament Winners Dog went to an agent handled black and white boy from the 6-9 month puppy class, very dark (almost a black dog with white markings) round eyes with soft gentle expression.

We've shown to Mrs.Hiltz many times over the past 10 or 12 years but noticed lately she seems to be putting up the familiar face, regardless of what's on the end of the leash. She is (was) a very capable judge, now only goes through the motions. What a disappointment.

Do not show to, political. Put up limping dog over beagle handler, she is a beagle breeder. Very bad.

Very good with nervous puppies. Wants a nice stack and will correct to what she wants to see. Wants a clean down and back... didn't seem to take notice on side gait. Very nice and pleasure to show to.

Provisional in our breed, did a credible job! No bias to handlers, she judged the dogs presented to her. Very pleasant, did a wonderful job, where have you been? I wish that we had more judges like her!
Jul 17, 2012 | 2 | jj0k | Bostons
Was disappointed with her inconsistent picks as she chose Bostons with nice movement and balance and then put up the cobbiest unbalanced male for breed. Her final breed lineup looked like 6 different breeds. Will not show to again until I see more consistency in her judging.

Does not understand movement of the breed, put up teh only handler in the ring BB with a dog that limped
Feb 6, 2011 | 1 | Rockland | Chows
Good ring procedues, does not know the Chow std, Breed limped, not consistent with other selections from heavy to light open faced. A crap shoot, and it may depend on who she recognizes.
Oct 21, 2010 | 2 | Mudpuppy | Keeshond
I think little and cute must be her mantra. Very disappointing. I'll not show to her again.

Not sure what she is looking for. Put up the class dog for BOB - nice dog, probably deserving but on the tall side. Select Dog went to an overdone, heavy, low-slung dog with a tail that is too short and not center-curled. There were better examples of the breed in the ring for Select.

A stacking judge, paid very little attention to the head and expression.

Very nice to the novice & nervous Briard! Patient and humored by Siberian puppy antics.

Mrs. Hiltz was very gentle with puppies and was kind to exhibitors. She didn't mind giving Winners crossover points for a major. She appears to like a soundly constructed dog with proper movement.

In min pins, she likes lot of action & will, unfortuantely, overlook obvious faults to put up the hackney action. In IG's she likes a houndy'r dog. Her breed is Beagles. I like her & showing to her, win or lose, she is very pleasant and will find a good dog in the breed ring but , again, goes political at the group level
Jan 28, 2008 | 4 | Blair Barrett | Boston Terrier
She appeared to like compact substantive dogs and petite pretty bitches. Gentle with puppies and overall very pleasant. She will put up a 6-9 mo. puppy in WD/WB and award BOW/BOS to class puppies over specials.
Oct 31, 2007 | 5 | Herding | German Shepherd
Nice person, ran very late judging. All over the map on her choices. Not sure what she is looking for.

Nothing special as far as apparent ability. Pleasant enough, but seemed to give professional handlers a bit of an edge. Could take her or leave her depending on the balance of the panel.
Aug 24, 2007 | 4 | WOW Pomz & Pinz | various Toy Breeds | Expert!
Prefers on the small side of prefered std. Little and cute with attitude gets her everytime. I have not seen her use a lot of color. She likes lift and definite hackney in the Pins.
Jan 9, 2007 | 5 | Carol Dry | MinPins | Expert!
Looks for lots of Hackney in Minpins. Very quick and efficient on the table. Will use a puppy for points. Seems to really like our breed and loves attitude. |
