4 months ago my puppy and I were at Raleigh NC. It was a 5 day circuit and also 2 Specialty's. So all together 7 shows. I had a 6-9 month puppy dog . Thou he was young this puppy did very well OH. He was probably a little over 9 months. This young immature puppy did very well that circuit. % Reserve 1 major. In my breed that is a big deal . Because he was OH and young. Mr. Gladstone did not enjoy him. That was fine. I was lucky for what we got. My problem with this judge was. It was the last day of the show 7 th show. All the other judges took so much time truly examining the dogs evaluating their movement. He was our Specialty judge. He was so not interested. Did not look at the dogs barely laid his hand when the exam. He choose 2 big handlers in boys. It was like it was a no brainer. It was major completion. His exams were 2 seconds. He seemed like he did not want to be their. Please if you are a judge and you do not enjoy it. Stop taking assignments. We as the public to not enjoy you.

I thought I had just the style dog this judge preferred from previous dogs he put up..but not sure if he could tell the length of ribbing or depth of keel on my dog as he barely touched him. It appeared that he was going on attitude alone...the more bubbly the better. my dog is serious and not puppyish, so got dumped. probably won't waste my entry $$ on him again. |

Observed him judging ring of SS (my initial breed). He is all right with dogs, but his ring procedure not very clear. I believe he knows what he is seeing, I also believe he knows faces and advertised specimens... Did good job up to the breed level. When specials came out went with predictable choices over class dogs of better quality. |

Absurdly political. Gave him a 1 because 0 wasn't available |

This man comes across as a very nice person but I don't think he should be judging dogs. He does not stand back for a initial profile view on the table, his idea of a physical "exam" is being shown the bite and patting the dogs back. He checked his watch on the down and back of every other exhibit and he barely watched go-arounds. I guess I'd probably show to him if he was in the middle of a cluster I was staying over for but I wont commute for him again that's for sure. Probably I'd skip the whole cluster and stay home and binge watch Netflix with my dog rather than go through all of the work of traveling to a show with "judges" like this... |

I have some respect for this judge outside judging he works hard to be fair within a system that is set up for the old boys however after watching him judge our Nationals and again this weekend it will be the most likely the last time I give this gentleman an entry (one exception).
He had a definite red bias in Aussies regardless of the structure or quality of the animal. He gave BOB to an animal who had not been considered over the previous 3 days and was definitely not as good as quality as the other specials in the ring.
I watched him do a number of other breeds which have red colour choice and found over 3 of the breeds I saw from start to finish he had a strong bias towards red over quality and soundness in other colours.
I would not go out of my way to show to him for a third time unless I had something red... |

Really needs to review the standard. Bigger is not better especially when they can not gait out of a wet paper bag. The entry was 7 IWH's, all except one had type and were sound around, coming and going. The one had none of the above except a PH, will not show to him again. |

We watched him 'judge' a few breeds and unless a pro was in the ring the dogs pretty much came out in the same order they went in. A pat on the head and on the back and there's your evaluation? Gotta say, for a $30+ entry fee these days they should at least pretend to judge your dog. |

Gives each dog a very fair look and watches them all move all the way around the ring. Doesn't worry about a bouncing puppy. He knows a good dog when he sees one. |

Totally political and rude. Looks at who is at the end of the lead. He also rushed through judging, barely going over the dogs on the table. He will never get my entry again. |

Very friendly in the ring. Did not find him to be heavy-handed. He is a very large person so the dog must be prepared. There were a few puppies in the ring and he seemed to realize his size might be an issue and spent time reassuring them. |

Just showed to Mr. Gladstone this weekend for the first time. His choice for winners bitch was owned and handled by a fellow judge and had no forechest and very little bone. He passed over 2 other very nice bitches. His choice for breed was shown by a very competent and attractive pro handler who was just one of several people who expressed surprise at his choice. Won't be showing to him again. |

He was great with my new dog who loves to dance around rather than stand for an exam. He is a big man but friendly and didn't seem to bother the other new dogs either. He doesn't have a color bias. Update: Just showed to him again and he was wonderful with my dog. Friendly and talked very nicely to my stud who was nervous after having his tail pinched in a door. He runs a good ring and he picks great dogs, we didn't place today but the picks were great. Will show to this judge whenever I get a chance. |

Showed to this judge this past weekend, seemed like a nice man and i almost agreed with his selections, but. This guy is huge and very heavy handed with the dogs on exam. several well seasoned dogs backed away from him and the puppies who were entered would not let him near them. It was a major entry in dogs and he did cross over the points to the bitch. |

Last time I had him, he really knew our standard and applied it. He seems to like dogs that could also compete in Hungary, rather than the generic dogs that proliferate in the US show ring. |

Showed to Mr. Gladstone at RGKC. He ran the ring efficiently, but failed to control it when he allowed one handler to run up on the dog of the handler in front of them and said nothing. The dog selected for breed was pretty, but its movement left something to be desired. This was also the same dog that was allowed to run up the other dog's butt. There was a well known handler on the winner. Mr. Gladstone will not get another entry from me. |

This guy is a joke - getting worse with age, I guess, can't find a good dog if it bit him on the butt - for a Cardigan breeder, he has no concept of what makes a good front on a dwarf dog - he does like a cute female handler, tho. I have watched him put up several poor quality class entries for breed over very deserving specials. |

Have always regarded him as a fair, knowledgable judge, until I saw him judge several hound breeds - He dumped ALL the decent dogs in the classes and was left with a mess to choose from in the winners classes - went so far as to withhold a 4 point major, when he had some excellent choices in the classes, which,he chose not to utilize - Very poor choices-I had nothing entered, thus, no sour grapes. |

Gave my bitch BOB and Group 3 among pro handlers, she was obviously what he liked. She is showy, nice head piece, maybe he loved her movement. Will definitely show to him again. Very pleasant to show to. |

He was very playful and active with a few handlers. They also won. Imagine that! |

Has no idea what the standard is. Puts puppies up.
Looks at faces. Very rude. Hardly puts any hands on the dogs. On my DNS list. |

Still has some work to do in the breed. Uneven experience the one time I have observed him, but I believe he has had better days from talking to others. I would still show to him and believe he will get the particulars sorted out as he seems friendly and eager. |

Relies on popular faces as he most definitely does not know how to judge the dogs. I have heard many complaints about his judging. On my DNS list. |

It was my observation that he needs to study
Bernese Mtn. Dog breed type. He had two or three nice bitches in the ring and chose one that had a very untypical head. |

Seems Mr Gladstone has no idea what a sound moving dog is. Very much 'face' oriented. |

is starting to 'get' it again -- was rewarding GSD type there for a while (his wife still does). Temperaments must be steady and he recently appreciated a young female with strong type (very square, long lean head, very dark eyes) enough to give her the breed over specials...well done! (and no, it's not my dog) |
