Poor technique, in a hurry, tries to do the bite, not IAW AKC guidelines. You do not get a good eval. Grp ring is a waste unless you a handler.

In 2019 I had a note that this was one of the rudest worst judges I had ever encountered. Rough on table exam which was barely a glance and no mouth exam and raced through breed like we were wasting his time. Fast forward to today, 2023, Arcadia and I never thought he could do worse but he has gotten even worse. Started the classes and after t dog excused himself and went to the bathroom for more than 10 minutes. OK I get it, nature calls but he could have delayed the start instead of interrupting the flow. Then dogs were Brought in and not stacked, he was rough on the table exam which was almost non existent and didn't look at the teeth. He was rude, gave poor directions and didn't seem to care what he picked. Eeny Meenie minie Moe...He was a judge change that I missed otherwise I would have skipped this for sure and will never make that mistake again. This man needs to retire. He is a disgrace to the word JUDGE

While his choices might not have been bad, he gave every appearance of not being interested in what he was doing. Lackluster would be my over all impression. However he was good with the dogs, and patient when waiting for armband shuffles. Another judge i would show to, but doing so with no expectations of what he is looking for.

Sadly Mr. Walton seems to have lost his joy for judging. Gave exhibitors the feeling they were more of an annoyance to be endured and he would rather be anywhere else than in a ring. Cursory exams and abrupt exchanges with exhibitors. Just moved him from my must show list to my DNS list.

I have shown under him and sat ringside and watched him judge many breeds. I could follow his picks easily, and he picked typey dogs with clean movement. He seemed to like moderate bone vs fine bone. He will put an OH up for BOB over a PH. (I'm an OH nobody, and I won BOB over an advertised dog handled by a pro.) I saw him put up several OH over PH in other breeds. Win or lose, I respect his judgement because he calls it like he sees it instead of only putting up his friends.

Have show to him several times and he Seems to know the standards at times when no handlers are there, but will put up handlers with very poor quality dogs from the classes for breed over several very nice specials ( specialty winning) to give the dog a major He is now on my DNS list. The quality of his breed picks was offensive

I showed to Mr. Walton at the Charleston KC show on January 25. He never bothered to walk down the lineup (there weren't that many of us) to get a close look at heads and expression. He was heavy handed with several puppies who weren't comfortable on the table, gave no real time to let the dog settle. His choices seemed to be following the order of entry into the ring. I watched him with his other assignments and he walked down the lineups every single time. Was he irritated with the Papillon people? I don't know. I have no beef with his choices.

Showed two breeds to Mr. Walton this past weekend. Was very impressed with his knowledge, thoroughness and manner. Actually did not win past my class but though he did an excellent job with his choices.

I keep seeing the word businesslike. Imo, he’s tired and easily annoyed. As a judge myself, I found him sad. Heavy handed, bored, uncaring about newer or owner handled exhibits. I would never hire this man, and wouldn’t go out of my way to give him another entry.

Business like in the ring but picked the right dogs. Would show to again.

Mr Walton was pleasant to show to even though it was the end a of long show circuit. He was good with the puppies and his judging was fair.

My showing in the Mr. Walton's ring turned to be a pleasant experience. I had 3 bitches that day, all bred/By, but in different classes. He was nice, observant, easy to show to. My class bitches didn't win anything, but the Champion I had got BOS over 5 other bitches including my own ones... Have to mention I was the only owner/handler, the rest were professionals, but Mr. Walton was evenly good to everybody and his choices were making sense to me. Will show again any time. Update... Tow more shows - same great impression. Should I say "Now on my favorite Judges list" ?.. :-)

Before we went in ring a handler handed him a picture of him giving his dog BOB at another show. They were laughing and talking when we all entered ring he didn't even bother to really look at us was busy on his cell phone in between us putting dogs on table. Of course we all know who won guess he wanted another picture.

Very kind and fair judge. Gave BOB to the 12-18mo Fawn bitch over specials, owner handled. Didn't seem to even look at the harls in the ring. I will show to him again.

Patience of a saint....seriously. I am sure he was frustrated, especially when it came to picture time, but he never lost his cool. SO consistent in what he put up. Gave ample time for setup, good approach, and quite thorough exam. He made you work tho! around the ring you go! In everything i watched, he seemed, at least to my eye, to always pick the best presented. His winning choices were OH, and Pro's equally. I will show to him again, as it was an enjoyable experience

Mr. Walton seemed to be a very gentle and caring judge to both human and animal. He watched the dogs and spoke kindly to me as an owner handler. I will gladly show under this judge any time. Put up the correct dog/bitch no matter who was at the north end of the lead.

Takes time on examination and seems to be interested in movement and musculature.
Jan 13, 20145WoodwynedGolden Retrievers
Did not show to him but was in the adjacent ring when a young (7ish) boy came into a specialty class with 2 adults. Could not have been any nicer to the child, while still making sure that the kid did not interfere with the adults in the class' ability to show their dogs to their best advantage. Put the adults in front of him so they could move out without interference, but continued to help the child be successful and have an extremely positive experience in the ring. WE NEED MORE OF THIS at shows.

agreed with his pick but was he ever in a hurry would not show to him again

appears to make his decision by looking ringside, not pleasant, cursory exam, did not watch the dogs go around, appeared bored. HANDLER ORIENTED to the MAX DNS
Oct 22, 2012anonpoms
Doesn't spend a lot of time looking at outline, mostly judges on the move and on heads. Didn't appear to want to see a free stack after the down & back.

does not look for correct breed type.

Very impressed with his judging. Did not seem politically motivated at all. Very pleasant to all and easy to follow instructions. Valued both movement and type. Will show to him anytime, anywhere if I think I have a worthy entry. Showed to him the second time this weekend; first time was 5 years ago and he gave my bitch a 4 pt major. This time I showed her daughter and he gave her a 5 pt. GCH major over 3 specials. Same as before--pleasant, easy to follow instructions, watched everyone. Movement huge important with him. And if he decides early your entry is the one, he won't spend much time on you again while he sorts through what his other placements will be. So don't assume b/c he's not watching you much that you're not getting anything. I think he decided on my bitch almost immediately and spent the rest of his assessments on the other placements.

Mr Walton is very consistent in his picks. This was my Whippet puppy's very first show and he showed great patience with the puppy classes. He definitely likes a good moving dog and a showy dog. I will show to Mr Walton again.

Doesnt know the breed and doesnt seem to want to learn about them either. Almost seemed bored. DNS until I see improvement. **UPDATE 2016** So glad I did not enter to this judge again since my last review - he has absolutely no clue at all about this breed. His choice for a 5 point major bitch win (meaning no disrespect to her owner) was a pet at best with multiple serious faults. Predictably his buddy fellow judge was BOB as was expected by all. When you become a judge you owe it to the breeds to try your best to study their standards and learn their nuances and choose accordingly.

Very consistent in his picks. Chose my Blk/Tan bitch from Am Bred class for a 5 pt major after giving her Choc daughter a puppy class win and Best Puppy. His pick for WD was of same type. I think he is basing his decisions on movement and topline...but knows how to examine a dachshund properly with emphasis on chest, keel and ribbing. Didn't seem political at all to me,being an OH, and certainly was as pleasant as any judge I've ever shown to.

I have won AND lost with this judge, but I always enjoy showing to him. He is known for using class dogs over Specials in Minpins. But he is great with puppies on the table and allows the minpins to be the little brats they are, without penalizing them for it.
Jul 17, 20091Vicki ShepherdBasset Hounds/Jr. Showmanship
This judge should not be judging juniors. On this day, he did not allow any of the kids to show their dogs' bite. In the case of my 11-year old cousin, he denied her the use of a ramp to show her Basset Hound (the ramp was already in the ring; he actually had it REMOVED) and told her that use of the ramp was at HIS discretion and HE chose to not have it used. She was the only Jr. Novice in her class, but when she came back in the ring for Best Jr Handler, he did not even LOOK at her or her dog. This man is extremely rude and he will NEVER get another entry from me.
Apr 20, 20093PAZHavanese
He is a very kind man, gentle with the dogs and nice to the humans. His ring was somewhat strange. He appeared to arrange the class dogs and bitches in large size to small size order and then gave class wins to the larger dogs. Completely opposite of the judging the day before - no surprises there. WB to a puppy handled by a well known handler (who is a great handler, I might add). BB went to nice dog with another well-known handler.
Mar 7, 20091AnonymousBulldog
I was very disappointed in his breed choices today. He doesn't understand breed type with regard to jaw (wry jaws are a fault) and put up a bulldog with a very noticable breathing problem. He is now on our DNS list.

Very pleasant to show to. Tells you exactly what he wants, nice change from guessing.

Mr. Walton gave my bitch a 4 pt major over a well-known Terrier handler....and I'm a breeder/owner/handler that shows occasionally. He likes brindle.

Mr. Walton searches for the "FACE" in the crowd. If he doesn't know you, you won't win!

I think he does a fine job with most of the Toy Breeds. He likes a clean moving typey dog and will use color. He is always pleasant and gentle with the dogs.

unsure of himself in certain breeds and asks other judges for their approval of his judging ringside in earshot of exhibitors afterward.
