Generally does a good job in judging the breed, but inconsistent in judging groups. Hard to tell what he'll do in Group. |

Very detailed head exam. My dog is very confident and had no issue with it, not sure if a timid puppy would be ok. |

I can follow his picks, but I've yet to agree with many of them. |

has everyone line up and checks bite while everyone is in line. After down and back, doesnt do an around - just lines you back up and then moves you 1 at a time. So efficient judging, but lacking in understanding regarding low number breeds. Choose mediocre typical exhibit over outstanding unusual one. |

Watched him judge Siberians in Fl before Eukanuba this year. Simply awful judging. Couldn't pick a good moving dog if it ran over him. Sad! |

Very pleasant in the ring. Quick exam, paid special attention to head detail. Chose very nice, deserving dogs. |

He moved the dogs down and back and around repeatedly and then proceeded to put up the worst moving dogs. Seemed to want showmanship, but then why waste the time moving the dogs? Couldn't follow his judging, but he was clear with directions and easy handed on the dogs. |

I watched this judge during boxers and was very disappointed in his judging. He lacked consistency in his class choices and clearly didn't understand the boxer standard. His WB choice was a total spook, had her tail down and was cowering each time she was in the ring. She was so insecure she practically tripped her handler several times trying to get away from anything that scared her. The boxer standard says that a boxer should exhibit fearless courage if threatened and any evidence of shyness should be severely penalized. Mr Sommerfelt needs to familiarize himself with this aspect of the standard if he is going to continue to judge this breed. |

Have shown to twice, both times I simply did not understand his judging at all. One time all handlers, the next not. His choices in structure are all over the place, one time small male, large bitch, the next large male, small bitch. Won't be showing to him again |

Mr. Sommerfelt had a very small entry (2 dog specials), both owner-handled. One dog is nearly flawless on the move, the other is faulty in the rear and has less reach and drive. Both typey dogs, but are different styles. One dog is almost cobby (a fault), the other longer cast (also a fault). Mr. Sommerfelt awarded the shorter backed dog with BOB. |

Interesting. We had a small entry in our breed, but only one handler and where many judges seem to phone it in and put up this handler(and what I consider an only okay dog), Mr. Sommerfelt judged the dogs and put up a relatively inexperienced owner with a nice dog. I would give him another entry. |

Handlers only!! 5/6/16 Update: Showed to this worthless judge again this weekend only because he was the Saturday judge in a 4 day cluster. The results were the same, only one pro handler in attendance but she won winners dog, winners bitch and then he placed her breed over a very nice owner handled special with her class dog. Don't waste you money if you show your own dogs. |

Handlers only need apply. One exhibitor said he told her handlers should win b/c it's their job. She responded the dog should win. Apparently, he hasn't changed his mind about that. Can be heavy-handed. No gay tails. |

DNS - judges faces only, even if those faces are attached to dogs that are completely not ring ready....(ie, won't stand still, fearful, won't gait)....watched him put up a bitch that was doing all of the above, to a breeder/handler/owner that is very well known in the group rings. |

Would not know a good dog if it bit him on his butt, can not look past the handlers and what some handler are wearing if you understand what I mean, Will never get another entry from me. |
