She seems to know Terrier Breeds, and will find the best if there isn’t a friend in the ring. Won’t go out of my way to show to her.
Jul 25, 2022AnonAmerican Hairless Terrier
Was disappointed in her last assignment. She put the handlers Hackneying puppy BOB over multiple top dogs with correct movement. Went with all handlers in the line up as well. I think she does a good job when handlers are not in the ring.
Nov 20, 20213JTSMultiple
Depends on who is in the ring but she can't find a good dog. of course if her handler friends are in the ring all bets are off. When she's looking at the dogs , she actually looks at movement and seems to follow the standard fairly well
Nov 6, 2021Owner HandlerDoberman
Showed to her recently and she only looked at the end of the lead. All the big time handlers won their classes and took winners and BOB. If you are an OH I don’t recommend ever showing to her. Definitely on my DNS.
Feb 2, 2020doberman
She socialized with a particular handler on Saturday and on Sunday gave that handler breed and Winners bitch. Doubt she even looked at the animals.
Jul 4, 20194Tatianaschnauzers
Unfortunately not sure what she was looking for... other then it look like overall she prefer more refined dogs over more robust ones. Nice lady to show to otherwise.
Jul 3, 20195AnonymousToys
She is an absolute pleasure to show too. She likes movement and really knows her standard. Other than being an exceptional dog person, she is fair and very kind to all exhibitors. Would show to her again, win or lose.

Waste of money, political

pleasant and competent at the breed level, leans political in groups - good for quality class animals

Very kind to both dogs & exhibitors in her ring. Knows what she wants and goes with it. Prefers something a bit more showy. Very good judge.

puts up what she wants-seems to be looking for a larger toy dog with a pretty head
Jul 17, 20171AnonymousToy
I had a good experience with her 3 months prior, when she awarded my OH Bitch BOB over several of the same faces and specials, she also proceeded to explain to me about a certain dog she didn't like and why she didn't award it. Fast forward 3 months and she awarded the dog she "didn't like back then" BOB, and my OH bitch only received BOBOH, she was the only eligible OH, and there was only one other CH bitch in the ring. I of course was very confused, so I decided since I wouldn't show to her again, because apparently her opinion changes with the wind. I also figured she wouldn't remember anyway? I approached her and asked her. Her excuse was, she wasn't moving that well, and sidewinded a bit. She was actually moving great, from everyone's comments, and she never sidewinds? The WB that was awarded BOS wasn't moving right at all, since a stranger took her back in for breed. I was fine with the other bitch special being awarded, she is also a nice girl. The problem for me was, I feel like she was trying to make the faces happy, instead of judging the dogs. She seemed to give the WB, BOS, because she gave the other handler BOB.

I've not found her to be very consistent in what she likes. Showy attitude seems to help.

ALWAYS LEARY WHEN YOU ENTER THE RING AND THE JUDGE IS CHECKING OUT THE HANDLER FACES AND NOT THE DOG ON THE LEAD. THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS MISTAKEN SO WENT BACK TO WATCH THE NEXT SEVERAL BREEDS. ALWAYS CHECKED OUT THE HANDLER, AND ONLY AWARDED THE PROS DURING THE 5 BREEDS I WATCHED
Sep 11, 20162SandyBasenji
Disappointed. She seemed very distant, uninterested, VERY brief table exam (lightly touched dogs then moved them). Only watched 1/3rd of all the go-rounds and moved to next dog on table (this went for groups, too). Seemed to have trouble in several breeds making selection...her facial expressions looked dissappointed. Choices unpredictable in many breeds I watched. Maybe had a bad day? I'll try her 1 more time. In basenjis, possibly reds only. Heard others say the same.

Runs a pleasant ring and enjoys what she does. Great judge to bring a young pup to. Recognizes good potential in puppies and will put up a young worthy puppy for the points. Understood the Breed standard and will pick the dog she feels best represents it, regardless of who is on the lead. Win or lose, I always enjoy showing to her and feel her picks are worthy.

WD and WB went to a judge friend. These dogs typically do not place higher than a 3rd or 4th. It was obvious. On my DNH and DNS list.

Sweet lady who needs to retire.
Dec 17, 2014Anonymous
She absolutely loves to have her picture in magazines. Pay for the first 20 pages for placement, with your handler (of course), and you have her pick over and over again. Owner handlers steer clear.
Aug 14, 2014anonymousBelgian Sheepdog
Mrs Alderman is a lady all the way. She was kind an pleasant an complimentary. She pulled my dog out for consideration in the group owner handled.

I have not shown to her in years and years, so it was like new to us. I read all the comments and reports, and am happy to say it was a delightful experience showing to her. Watched her for an hour before our ring time. She was consistent, soft spoken, gentle, altho a bit lacking in actual examination of the dog. No matter how poor the quality of the dog might have been, she gave it fair time and consideration. She watched it all the way around the ring. She did give me some handling advice at the end of my down and back, and made me to it over again, following her advice. She was right, my dogs performance improved, and she gave me WB/BOW. Would definitely show to her again. Equal split of BOH, OH and Pros in her awards, she awarded what she felt was worthy, and if she did not feel it was worthy she did not award it, and she did not cross over points for the same reasons. Obviously her own woman when it came to judging
Jan 27, 20142anonpems
for breed, put up such an obviously scissored entry, it didnt even resemble the breed - and, used it in the group - of course, it was with a top, top handler! nice enough to show to, but i doubt it is about the dogs - sad
Jan 18, 20145houndawgNon-sporting
This judge was very pleasant and easy with young dogs as well as the exhibitors. She seemed to look for sound movement and type. She is a very good dog for the beginner dog as well as the experienced.
Nov 24, 20134BekkiHounds
Very pleasant in the ring. Smiled alot, made exhibitors at ease. Put a squirrely 6mo puppy under her and it was a fantastic experience for the puppy. Highly recommend starting puppies with her.
Jan 5, 20133anonmousVizsla
Nice judge but didn't understand why she didn't give the open dog winners. She gave winners and best of op to the open bitch
Dec 22, 20121JasonWhippets
Poor thing needs to retire. She admitted not being able to see more than 10 feet away from her. If she can't see the dog move, how can she properly judge the dog?

Sadly I have to agree with the others here...hire a handler.
Jul 20, 20121pommogussettBrittanys
Have won and Lost under this judge over the years. Usually looks up the lead to find handler friends and rewards them. Once waited in the ring after my initial go around for about 5 minutes while she chatted with a pro outside the ring. Will take a chance to show to her but never expect much.
Jun 17, 20122ConfettiChihuahua
My bitch took a 4 and 5 point major prior to the day I showed to her on a three day show weekend. She walked under this judge the third day. The following weekend she finished with another 5 point major. The day she walked all winners were handlers. Enough said. Wntered under her in 2013 and she seemed to prefer small as there were no handlers in the classes. Variety went to a handler whose dog does not win ever under nonpolitical judges.

A delightful lady who normally chooses the worst moving springer in the ring!
Jun 11, 20121Thomas Sighthounds
I wholeheartedly agree, "Hire a handler". Barb is TOTALLY going to place the handler! WD=handler, RWD=handler, WB=handler, BOB=handler, BOW=handler, BOS=Handler, Select Bitch=Handler. As an owner-handler Barb is on my DNS list. If there was a lower rating than 1, this poor excuse for a "judge" would receive it from me!
Jun 11, 2012HerdingPWC
Hire a handler.
May 5, 20124AmoymousPom
Likes good movement. Does like a cute head but movement and expression paramount to her. Does not mind a larger Pom. Good with puppies does not mind putting up if great specimen.
Apr 12, 20123anonymousworking dogs
she put me up for BOB over some big dogs a few years ago, and complained about round heads/light eyes, yet now she's a huge champion of a dog that she dumped in favor of me and my dog, that doesn't even look like my breed and also has light eyes, round head. And a big, big budget
Apr 1, 2012AnonPom
I have seen her lean towards handlers but generally only if they have a good dog. She seems to appreciate a pretty, typey pom and have seen her pick fairly consistent looks. I am not usualy surprised by which dogs she gives the most consideration.

She used to be a good judge but I have to agree with the previous post that she just doesn't have it anymore. She is on my DNS list as well.
Oct 10, 20111Golden LoverGolden Retrievers
Was very sad to see that everything went to ONE person. Not the dogs they were showing. Definitely looked at the end of the lead....not who she was hired to give an opinion on. DNS to list.
Aug 14, 20113jereco collies
Very gentle with puppies and will use them.
Aug 4, 20111anonymousterriers
Oh, dear, a new addition to my lifetime DNS list, and I used to like her. Not sure she would recognize breed type in my breed if it fell out of a tree and hit her on the head. Put up a generic, advertised dog with an old handler friend of hers over a GCH bitch who exudes breed type. Sad for our breed.
Aug 4, 20111anonymousrare
Too political. Prefers to put up her handler friends. She will dump competition to 'set the table' for the breeds she wants to see place in Group.
Jun 20, 20113MudpuppyKeeshond
She did a nice job, was gentle with the dogs, and efficient in the running of her ring.
Jun 10, 20114ChriMasoBoston TerriersExpert!
She was quite pleasant and easy on the dogs. She seemed to judge quite fast and I did feel "rushed" in the ring. All of her awards were pro handled, so not sure if she placed based on that or if she placed based upon what she felt was really the best dog in the ring. WD & WB were not very similar, though WD/BOW, WB/BOS (over one bitch special), and BOB all had lovely heads with great "attention". The awards were definitely deserving, and I will show to her again. Hopefully, all the winners being pros was just coincidence.
Jun 5, 20115anonmastiff newfie
Watched her do both breeds - I had no "dog in the fight". She did a great job, consistently picked the good typey dogs in the classes. She was smiling, pleasant, gentle, and FAST - she never seemed rushed, and she would take an extra look to be sure but she didn't mess around. In newfies she put up a smashing class dog over specials and well known handlers - dog was totally deserving. Will show to her anytime.

Very soft hands with puppies.

Put up Bred-by Bitch over agent handled Open bitch. Seemed to be looking for expression and animation.
Jan 10, 20113anonymousFrench Bulldogs
Very nice in the ring and seems to take her time making a decision. However if there are professional handlers in the ring you don't stand a chance. Does not know our standard very well. Saw her put up several flat back dogs just because of who was handling them. Would show to her for a small show but not in a large show where there are a lot of professional handlers
Jan 3, 20111Carol DryMinpinsExpert!
This lady is very gentle with puppies on the table. And seems to give everyone a very good look, even makes you feel like she really likes your dog, then she will completely ignore you in the placings. She is a good judge to start a puppy out with as long as you arent counting on winning
Sep 3, 2010Lisa BridgewaterYorkshire Terrier
I've usually found her to be quite fair and knowledgeable about my breed. Shockingly gave me a Group placement in a competitive toy group, and I'm a breeder, owner, handler nobody.
Sep 2, 2010anonterrier
don't waste your money - put a handler on the dog or don't bother showing
Aug 9, 20102anonymouspapillons
Use to be a good judge, but boy has she changed! Put up same person for WD & WB (bitch had reddish brown eyes!) but this person did get her an assignment with his club and she's judging there next month... draw your own conclusions.
Jul 11, 20103RocklandChows
Afraid of the breed, she tends to make her placements from Bred-By. Did not use the ramp, which might help her, as she would not be looming over the younger dogs.
Dec 5, 2009LEFTerriers
Certainly didn't place by size. Grooming and handling made no difference, maybe looking at length of head???????????
Sep 28, 20091Havanese
Very pleasant but put up the worst example of the breed in the ring. Very chatty with the professional handler that won. For my entry fee, I want more than someone to smile and be nice to me.

Wonderful ring presence. Knows good movement and rewards it. Is very gentle with puppies. Will show to her anytime.
Apr 20, 20095PAZHavanese
She is very gentle with dogs, considerate of all entries and gave all dogs a very thorough examination and consideration. She appeared to be consistent in her choices as to breed type.
Nov 11, 20081Owner HandlersWorking
What a cop-out, simply picked out the smallest dogs in the classes, there were no handlers. For breed only the handlers were considered, very obvious.
Oct 19, 20081anonterriers
Iwas always impressed with her non-sporting judging. However, she does a terrible job with terriers. She spent a recent weekend placing by size! If you had the smallest dog-you won! Will never give her an entry again. This happened in breed after breed. Lots of angry people as she even lost 3 BIS dogs in their respective breeds.

Very Nice Judge, Loves Puppies and has fun with them, runs a very nice ring,
Jun 29, 20082anonymous
I thought she was a good judge, but after her most recent assignment, I see why people call her political. Gave a dog a major with a pro handler, the dog was by far not the best dog in the ring and then proceeded to award him BOW over a nicer WB. Will do the right thing if there are no handlers in the ring, otherwise it's your money.
Jun 24, 20084Working BreedBernese Mountain DogExpert!
After showing to Mrs. Alderman several times, I am convinced that she knows a good overall dog and wants the dog to be strong in all aspects structurely. She is pleasant to show to and focuses at the task at hand. I hope she will continue to be non-political.

I'm a newbie, but she was the most thorough judge I've shown to so far on the table, and seemed to watch each dog carefully. Does appear a bit political, but put up sound, good choices today. She was very gentle with my puppy and patient - soft hands. I'd show to her again.

Nice, pleasant, does not seem familiar w/breed standard. Would not show to her unless in the middle of a cluster. Seldom uses a TT in groups, appears she likes other breeds better.

She is a pleasant lovely woman. She is good with the dogs. She appears to be watching and making very careful choices and boom...she will put up the more well known handlers with inferior exhibits so fast you won't know what hit you.
Aug 13, 20072anonterriers
We watched her judge this weekend. She put up several handlers she knows with inferior dogs not meeting standards for those breeds. Sad. She missed some very nice dogs. Too bad some judges can't appreciate what is presented to them. Otherwise, she was very courteous and seemed to be happy to be there. - UPDATE 5 years later - still put up all handlers but also still very pleasant to show to. Very good with puppies! Happy and friendly but did not seem to watch the dogs.
