Very nice man, and you can tell he loves what he's doing. But I do think it's time for him to retire. He had to have the steward make sure he wasnt giving specials WD or WB, and vice versa for SD and SB. He got confused in multiple BOB classes, and put up dogs that could not move - a corner stone of what our breed needs.

The last time I exhibited to Mr. Tacker was back in 2007 and he has changed since then. He seems to have mellowed with age. It's my understanding that he's in his 90's now. Bless him for continuing to do something that he obviously loves. Mr. Tacker was quite pleasant with the exhibitors and easy with the hounds. He is aged and rather frail now, but he still can find a good dog. He seems to look for good movement and requested that the handlers not "race" the hounds around the ring. He had us move the dogs several times, doing triangles for solo dog entries. He wanted the dog to stop straight in, looking at him and not swung around for a side profile. He was very good with my skittish puppy.

We have not shown to this judge before, so i have no frame of reference. He is quite feeble, and showing his years. It is always sad to see our older judges start to fail and slow down. I am sure the altitude had A LOT to do with his demeanor. He had a heavy schedule of judging, and he was also doing 3 Groups. We had him late in the day, and he was obviously tired, he stooped, and shuffled, and leaned on the table. His exam was extremely cursory. He just lightly touched the dogs, did not look at teeth, or much else. His picks were fine, and he still had a sense of humor. His selections in the Group ring, were mostly OH, and worthy dogs all. I can give him a good rating as a judge, but i think high altitude assignments should be out.

Such a nice man, but appeared very senile and confused many times. He took in a toy breed a really cute bitch BOB over several really nice specials, some nationally ranked in top 5. The specials which were over a dozen were well groomed, presented and all in coat. When he picked his final pick he seemed confused who was a bitch or a dog, it was sad. But did love the little class bitch that he took and she was lovely, but I think he did it in confusion over so many outstanding specials. Oh well. Just not a DNS unless want to ride the merry go round and not sure where you will land.

Likes VERY small. Also likes a pretty young girl! If you have both you will win

Mr. Tacker did not put his hands on nor exam testicles in either of the Setter breeds we showed to him. He seemed to forget where he was and what he was doing on several occassions. He did in the end, send good representatives to the group, but it might just as well have been accidental.

Joe Tacker judged a large show here in Canada and I was O/B/H on a young bitch who was a little "wild". I was happy she was focusing on the bait (first show at 6 months). He made me put away my bait, and do my down and back 3 times till HE was satisfied with it. I was mortified! Then he asked a silly question to which I responded. He then thanked me for having a sense of humour and gave us RWB to a BIS bitch. He did not do this to any other handler. Not sure if I will show to him again.

If you are blond and pretty it doesn't matter what you bring to him. On my DNS list!

Does what he wants. Liked my small typey bitch with dynamite head and ears. Gave her a breed win from the classes over a ranked special.

We found him to be VERY decisive in what he wanted to do, although he did ponder a bit in winners bitch. He was very gentle with the Dachshunds on the table and had handlers show the bites. He did withhold reserve winners in one sex. Seems to really want good movement. Watched him judge BIS and a group and he was also very decisive there. We heard he had a reputation for being gruff but he was very cordial and polite, he is soft spoken and doesn't seem to suffer fools (or poor handlers) very well.

I found him to be pleasant and easy to show to. I had to listen carefully because he was very soft spoken. Despite his reputation I had no problems with his judging and I'd gladly show to him again. He awarded my dog reserve (his litter mate shown in the same class got the points) It seems his judging is pretty consistent and he seemed to have some trouble deciding who in the class to give the blue ribbon. He didn't seem to care that I'm not young and female and I found him to be very professional in the ring.

Joe will do the opposite of what you expect him to do. Loves juniors (teaches children piano), does prefer blond & female, unless Mrs Tacker is around. Downside is that he loves to play games (in his words, because he can). A little bit of a power play in his ring, he is "King".

Mr. Tacker must have taken a "grouch" pill the day we showed to him. He was filling in for a different judge. Found him most unforgiving of handler errors and rather sharp. He did not give clear, concise direction but expected you to know what he wanted anyway. He seemed to be a bit heavy handed with the hounds. If you have sensitive feelings, I'd not recommend showing to him.

Found Mr Tacker very rude and political. He also changed his ring procedure in the middle of judging dobes. Wasn't checking a breeds mouth that has disqualification for missing teeth part way threw his judging.

Did not feel like he took care to evaluate all dogs and seemed to prefer professional handled dogs

Found him to like a ground covering dog on a loose lead out front. Good shoulder a must. Very kind to new and nervous handlers. Found him to be a gentleman.
