saw her judge last weekend. OMG did she totally ruin the job. Spoke with handlers at length, put up the WORST specimens across the board. it was a travesty and I felt bad for those who paid MONEY to show to her. She is now with a cane. She patted the dogs heads and felt their tops. NO examining of testicles, structure, or muscle.

Have to agree with the previous post. But this time Yucked it up with a handler IN the breed ring. (We're talking about a minute or so)

Looks only up the lead or outside the ring. "Yuks" it up with cronies at ringside. Seems confused often, but manages to put up good friends. Puts inferior dogs up, and friends, without regard for the standard. Is grossly misinformed on many levels of breed and showing. Do not waste your money or your time. We are saying this not as jilted newcomers , but as people that have been showing for decades at the highest levels, and are just sick of this sort of nonsense. Time to hang up the spurs or the Judges badge for this woman. DNS..permanently

I recently showed to Mrs Steen and finished my nearly naked boy for a cross over 3 point major under her in the BBE class. She made comments such as nice up and down, nice short back. nice teeth etc... This made me feel that she was looking for structure, type, movement. If you have a well behaved structurally sound animal I would not hesitate to show under Mrs.Steen again.

I too was questioned why I had a 7 month old in BBE class as she said that she is not old enough to be competitive in that class. BBE has no age restriction. I knew at that moment that she has no regard for the breeder/owner/handler as this is very important to a breeder to get all of your points from the BBE class. It is also necessary in many breeds to get the BBE Medallion. It used to be required to be invited to the Eukanuba. I made a mistake once on one of my good bitches in putting her in a puppy class when she was 6 months and one day old, she took the breed and I did not get my medallion from my breed club and I was not able to take her to the Eukanuba National Championship. ALSO, I disagree with her politics. I was in a large open bitch class as well, we had all been examined and she had moved the girls around to the positions she wanted. She asked for us to take our final go round and then a woman came running and asked if she had missed the class. This judge allowed her to be examined and I overheard her asking her where she had been. The bitch grunted and gasped with every step, had no reach and drive and was roached in the back. She put her in 4th, then 2nd and then first place and gave her WB. I later learned that this was an old time handler who was notorious for this late attendance. This was a supported entry in CA and this poor judging was noted by many. I received many comments from exhibitors and spectators on this poor judging. I finished the bitch the following weekend at a larger show with two 4 pt majors. Ms. Steen is on my DNS list in the future.

I was questioned in the ring by Mrs. Steen as to why I had my 7mth old puppies in the BBE classes. My reply was that as their breeder I wanted to show them exclusively from BBE and should they earn any points I wanted them to come from bred-by. She told me that my dogs were not ready for any points and that I needed to put them in the puppy classes where they belonged. Needless to say I was mortified! I did move both my puppies to the puppy class at their next show, well, guess what....they both took their first points by winning Breed and BOS from the puppy class costing me that nice, lovely BBE Medallion from AKC. Guess that's what I get for listening to her. This was my first breeding, it would have been nice to have earned that BBE Medallion. I was within my rights to show them in BBE, and I should have continued to do so. All that aside, she's not a very pleasant person, just doesn't seem to be enjoying her role as judge. It goes without saying, don't waste your money showing your puppies to her.

Good judge. Is accused to looking at faces, but I believe she finds a good dog and rewards it. She did a great job at Eukanuba in Long Beach with the Working Group. Show to her.

Thank you to the Site Admin & Mrs. Steen for adding her comments. It's nice to know she's interested in these comments & is more then willing to explain when she feels necessary.

Mrs. Steen, would like to respond to these comments below with a note to this effect:
1) At the Eukanuba show, the judges had specific instructions how to approach the dogs for camera angle etc., to not waste time or words, there had been rehearsals, there was a microphone which tends to make one self-conscious, and they were under unusual time pressure. It was a bit awkward, took her out of her usual procedure, and she apologizes if there was an impression of lack of courtesy.
2) She has been a mentor to Carl Vitner, not the other way around, she is very independent in her judging, and there was nothing improper in her telephone conversation with Carl mentioned below. She would ask the person who posted to reconsider the comment.
3) She DOES like the Belgian breeds, and has received compliments in her judging of Belgians. She will consider the specific criticism.

At the AKC/Eukanuba show in the Working Group, she was not very pleasant. No "Hello" or "Congratulations", just "Show me the bite."

Ms Steen has to answer to Carl Vitner when judging this breed. Has actually been heard on the phone to him with the first days results to see what she should do the next day. VERY disappointing!!!!

Is said not to like the breed and based on how she acts while judging them, I'd believe it. Note -- Belgians are not puny 'wanna be GSDs' Til she figures that out, I won't waste any more $$
