never shown to her she did a great job-know her dogs well-watched her judge several breeds

Fair judge. Looks at dog not handler.
Oct 25, 20194Rough and Smooth Collies
Was able to observe a decent entry for both varieties and was pleased with the results. She was conscious of movement as well as head detail and all placements were very close to what I would have chosen myself.

Have never shown to this judge before-showed in owner handler-my puppy was very bad i think he gave the judge the evil eye-but she was Able to see his quality despite his behavior and awarded us a group4

Yes, she knows her handlers, but... It is not all about faces for her in the ring. She does see good dog as well and will put it up if she can. She really will appreciate a good coat work on Your terrier. Present her one and she will find it. Also, we had first time at the show puppy, who got scared by other dog right before the ring. She was extremely patient with both - puppy and her handler and made it positive experience. I would show her again and would bring puppies, if I have any.

I have showed to this judge for 15 years or so. She always impressed me with her procedure - before looking at the dog she always carefully looks at the handler’s face. She never bothers looking at your dog going around if you are not a “face”. I still show to her on occasions in the breed because, if no big “faces”are there, with her crapshot approach everybody has a chance. But I usually don’t stay for the hounds group when she judges as I know who of the handlers would be placed, no matter what they bring to her. And yes, American Foxhound always gets a placement (in most cases - Group 1) and that AF doesn’t need to be a good dog at all.

Pleasant enough in the ring, went over all the dogs but in the final lineup- all PH.

I had no issue with her picks but she had no patience for my puppy who misbehaved and gave him 4 out 4. He won his class 8 out 10 shows that weekend.

We all know why she picked her Westminster Hound Group winner, and it was not because of the dog's merits. The dog's handler is indeed a legend in the sport, but this was not the place to throw her an honorary Group One. Sad. I could totally see including her in the cut as a way to honor her, or maybe even a Group 4. It was very obvious in the BIS group that the team didn't not belong there. What does it say to newcomers, when the old-time HANDLERS get the big goodies?

So many excellent examples of outstanding hounds , she went with a fellow judge with a disappointing entry. Why?

Showed to this judge for a second time; first time was several years ago. She was very pleasant to everyone. I did not agree with her picks at all, but she was consistent. I just don't think she and I value the same things in my breed. I may try her again in my other breed. She may have been biased in favor of one particular individual--or that individual may just have been showing her what she likes.

I stewarded for Ms. Smith and she was having fun in the Weim ring. I was a bit surprised when she awarded a dog with what I consider poor feet. The feet were rather splayed. But, then again, I'm a fanatic when it comes to feet so... take that into consideration. She seemed to give everyone equal consideration and had some move their dogs a 2nd time.

Mrs Smith highly considers owner handlers in choosing her winners. Mrs Smith was very pleasant in the ring. I enjoyed showing to her an BOB dog & BOW bitch were owner handled Mrs Smith went on to give my owner handled dog a group 4

2nd time showing to her in just a few months. Pretty much the same as last time. Fair, gives you time, gave all the dogs an equal look, and also more than willing to cross over points. I only watched her briefly after that, so cannot make an accurate comment on what she was or was not looking for. In my breed she was kind of limited by a small entry so you cannot say what she was or was not looking for. She had no options . However......in Group she cut a mix of handler and owners.....Her Group 2, was a local Breeder Owner Handler. So she was fair in what she was doing....and it was a very tough Group.

Wants handlers in right place, can get put out if not, pay attention to what you do in riing. Will put up owner handlers. Likes movement and silhouette .

I showed with trepadation, as of late i had read alot of negative reports on this judge. I saw nothing to validate any of those negative reports. She ran a tight ring, and expected you to be where you were supposed to be. Did a good job of judging, with consistant picks

My experience with this judge was pleasant. Showed two different breeds to her and agreed with her placements. Didn't seem political to me and I'm an unknown.

Everything everyone else said. Found her handler friends. Didn't watch my dog during the movement pattern. Judged the handlers and found them all.

After reading all the comments about her I certainly didn't seek her out, but had the opportunity to show to her today. My boy went BOV from a very large group of specials, including some very big names. I'm new to collies and showing, so she was certainly looking at the correct end of the lead. She was extremely pleasant with our breed and took time to ask a few of us to move our dogs again. I was told by a Jr. Handler that showed to her earlier in the day that although she didn't win, she also had a very good experience as she has in the past. I'll definitely look for her again!

Will put up a pretty pom if she is not looking at faces; likes creams or lighter colors possibly. But if her favorite people are in the ring forget about it. Will only show to her if I think there is 0 chance her friends will show up (but I am often surprised that they do anyway). Also saw her scold a friend of mine in the group for taking her hands off her exhibit on the table & dropping the lead to bait him (toy breed) which showed off the dog's showmanship. Debatable whether this was called for; the dog was trained and would not jump off the table but I guess I can understand her reservations... also seemed very annoyed at some handlers showing up late for group (but admittedly it was the first group, so should not have been a surprise when it started) but very openly annoyed.

All the raters were right.--Should have saved the entry fee and gas money. I've never seen so much drama in the ring before. At Shawnee KC, she dressed down a pro handler for arriving late in the ring. The handler had been in the ring immediately to the left showing another breed and had already (prior to the beginning of judging) advised Mrs. Smith's ring steward that she would have an alternate handler bring her dog in the ring and then she would take over from him if she finished the other breed in time. When the handler came into the ring (prior to her dog being judged), Mrs. Smith announced quite loudly that she didn't care WHO had given permission, anyone coming into HER ring had to ask HER permission. All that aside, she gave the Breed to this handler after she'd chastised her. It was quite a spectacle. I have a pretty short list of judges to avoid, but this one's on it!

This is a composite post: A number of us are so appalled by Polly Smith's behavior at the Lima cluster that we will never, ever, ever show to her again. Rude, crude and patently political. Yelled at exhibitors. Yelled at a photographer and deliberately ruined the photographer's shots, because the person was momentarily IN HER WAY. And her judging? Big snaps to her pro handler friends from the Boshwash corridor. Just horrible. We think she has a personality disorder.

I had to change my opinion on this judge, the last 2 times I have shown to her there were no handlers in the ring and she did a good job of finding the dogs with the type that she likes. More middle of the road size wise and moderate movement. Wants a statue on the table though

Thought Mrs. Smitth was very unpleasant to show to and made bad choices. DNS list.
Nov 1, 20101toys
On my DNS. Did not even look at the dogs, picked the worst examples of the breed. Structure and movement are of no concern to her. Inconsistent, political. Basically, just like what was written by most on Showdays.
Jul 25, 20101anonworking
The only consistent thing about this judge is her inconsistancy...... on my DNS list for sure

I won't show to this judge again, ...she is rude and does not communicate what she wants you to do and then yells at you if she thinks it was not done right. Won't do it again....!!!

I was a spectator w/o dogs to show and was amazed at how rude and lazy this judge is. For goodness sake, give the exhibitors their 2.5 minutes of attention. She asked exhibitors to do the go around and stopped them at the first turn. Why have them begin to do the go-around if she knows who she wants to put up. VERY discouraging to novice breed fanciers, how will we get more people interested in the breed if judges are allowed to be so rude?
May 17, 20091WindkistCollies
Don't waste your money, not a pleasant judge, can't find a good dog if it was the only one in the ring
Apr 24, 20094anonterriers
She looks at the dogs and seems to know what she likes and will tell you!
Sep 1, 2008AnonTerriers
Asked age of all dogs, then put up oldest/maybe most mature. Didn't seem to care about movement or attitude/showiness.
Jul 26, 20084Dalmatian
Looked in the mouth a lot more than judges in this breed normally do. Her choices the day we showed indicate she likes pretty in addition to sound structure and movement.
Mar 13, 20081AnonymousParson Russell Terrier
This judge appeared to be spacey and kept looking at the dogs, not seeming to be able to choose. For BOB, she finally chose a specials bitch that I had thought should not even be in the ring, over the #1 dog and two other very nice male specials. She picked a small WB and a large WD, too. Very inconsistent. I usually give judges two chances before I scratch them off my list, and I'll give her one more chance to be fair.
Feb 24, 20083Elaine SummerhillGreyhoundsExpert!
Inconsistent, at best, but she can do a good job.
Jan 16, 20081anonymous
Bizarre placements, and equally rude to ALL the exhibitors, including the ones she put up.
Jan 13, 20084Joseph B GentzelGreat PyreneesExpert!
Mrs Smith is OK and seems to be getting better each time I see her. Dog must be groomed very well and maybe in a working dog she could lighten up a bit here, but in the BOB you better have your animal prepared.
Nov 9, 20071anonyTerriersExpert!
would NEVER show to this lady again. I've never been treated so poorly in the ring. She's rude, and gives the appearance that she'd rather be anywhere than the middle of the ring judging dogs.
Sep 15, 20072SunhillowFlat coated Retriever
Spent a lot of time looking at shoulders and layback and then placed poor shoulders and fronts. Asked how old the dogs were. Gave winners to puppies in dogs and bitches.
Jul 4, 20072Celebrate
not consistant in picking type
Mar 18, 20071ANONShelties
Had never shown to her or seen her judge until today. NEVER will again. Was OK with her WD but WB was beyond me...the bitch was dirty and poorly presented and lacked the quality of other bitches present. (I showed a dog to her)
