Be sure to follow his instructions in the ring as he does not like people not following his instruction Not sure what he was looking for as he was not consistent on movement choices

Very inconsistent. Seems to look at movement but won’t reward best movement in the ring. Tends to like small and pretty with adequate movement over correct athletic type.

He will put up the dog that he feels is the best.

A pleasant enough judge. Good ring instruction. I did not do well with either my class dog or y BOB Girl. Very small entry(4-6)(0-6) AKC should take note how small Dane entries have gone down. Back to the judging. Out of the 4 dogs. I did like his choice he pick a Open Mantle Boy. Beautiful head and size of dog. I was in the same class with my open mantle boy. Both theses dogs having been going back in forth in class for a year. The mantle boy got they point and finished. I was happy for the owner handler and dog. Now time for WB entry 6 he picked a Blue Bitch. Lovely but in my opinion not overdone and very feminine. My BOB is a big black girl a head to die, beautiful brick planes a true Dane head. 32 1/2 at withers weighing 125 to 130. I thought who was gone to win was a substantial Fawn with a top Dane handler. NOP she did not make the cut nor I or the No. 8 Bitch last year with a Pro. Handler. He pulled out a OH with a Mantle Bitch Nice but petite not great length of muzzle or back scull. Put up the other Black Bitch with Pro Dane handler Bitch was refined. Not excessive bone or head piece Refined head piece with lack of length in back skull and length of muzzle . I did not feel like size was his thing. OR Type was important to him on that day. Still scratching my head! I do not think I would go to him again. Only if I had refined bitches.

Unbelievably horrible class judging - WD was visibly terrified, crawling, leaning away, head down, refused to stand for exam, showing whites of eyes, lunging all over. Never once placed a foot in place. Handler had no control. The dog himself was cloddy and coarse. RWD not much better leaning away from handler who had him strung up, never free stacked, unsure and lacking in confidence. Only two bitches so not easy to see what he wanted there. BOB was not a bad choice. All of his selections in 17 entries were the same color. All colors were represented but he completely ignored anything but red. I'll be saving my money.

This man is the most fickle of any judge I've ever gone under in terms of picking styles within my breed. Sometimes it's big, sometimes small, sometimes heavier boned, sometimes light. The only thing I can follow is that he always picks a handler. I believe he knows dogs, but I don't believe he either knows my breed or cares to know because his picks are so incredibly random. Disappointing - and this is over a decade of observation, by the way.

Never seen this judge look at dogs. One year I sat ringside and watched his ring just for fun and saw him put up the same handler time and time again, breed after breed after breed. Wouldn't show to him again if it were free.

I see a Sept. 7 comment that he asked the handler to show bite. Maybe he switches it up...because he moved in very fast on my dog (we were first) and I'd have preferred to show the bite. Didn't even give me a split second to set him up..I needed to adjust one back leg and before I could he was on my dog's snout. I wasn't there to fully hold his head and so Mr. Slay was left with the job and how odd that was. I move very fast, so I couldn't have prevented it. Never has it happened with another judge before. And generally I have his teeth showing before the judge gets a chance, because I pull up those slimy jowls better than anyone! Maybe he thought my boy could take it and he did but you could tell it gave him a jolt and as a handler I felt like it was a shoddy inspection and a bit dangerous. Otherwise, Mr. Slay is a very nice judge and I'd show to him again...hopefully not first in line.

Does a nice job, and works with newbie handlers well. Likes typey dogs with good movement. Sometimes I scratch my head at why he chooses a particular dog, but he does not seem to consistently choose handlers.

Mr Slay was attentive to the dogs in his ring, and moved all entries enough to make one think that he preferred movement over type. I would agree with that assumption, except that he overlooked typey, good-moving dogs in favor of lesser dogs with average movement (several of his winners lacked reach and drive), so I have no clue what virtue he found in his choices.

NOT someone I would show to again, picked horrible moving WB for a 4 point major, much better breed representatves were there to choose from. WD pick was outta standard.

disapointing. I will not be paying for his opinion again.

Very nice man and pleasant to show to, but he put up an obviously lame dog (ACL PROBLEM)for Reserve - All ringside were shocked it was not excused, but a handler did have the lead???
Dec 5, 20101anonSiberian HuskiesExpert!
Obviously and blatantly political. Put up poor quality for winners and mediocre dog for BOB all with the same handler. No consistency in the dogs that were awarded. Will not show to again.

Fair, judged carefully, paying attention. Knows what he likes and awards accordingly. Seems to like pretty faces, male or female.

He is very quiet with the handlers. Was wonderful judging this breed. Ask the handlers if they wanted to show the bite. Love this! Very patient with the young dogs. Did a nice job judging the major entry.

Has always been one of our "go to" judges with good dogs. Love his ring control, and instruction. Very pleasant but doesn't waste time. He knows and appreciates correct. Would show to again with my best.

Good judge. Very business like in the ring. Will sort them out for what's before him.

Knows good dogs when he sees them. Somewhat quiet but very professional in his manners. A good man to show to if you have a good dog.

Agree that he is looking for a dog/bitch that is not overdone, and is a sound mover. Wants a dog that looks like a dog and a bitch that looks like a bitch.
Feb 8, 20075new beginningsmastiffs
not friendly but likes a nice moving dog, good topline. Does not look at other end of leash. gave me, owner handler BOS at supported over handled specials. Doesn't like an overdone dog--in my breed

Very abrupt man, rude and does not enjoy his job on the weekends!
