Very pleasant judge, will joke a bit. Willing to put up OH for placements in regular group over top-ranked dogs and big-name handlers. Likes a nice outline, good mover.

His name says it all NO!!! Doesn't look at dogs puts up only top handlers. Put up a bitch so scared he couldn't touch it. Won't even look at a plain. ON MY DNS. NO!!

Enjoyed showing to Mr James Noe. He was super sweet to the dogs very complementary overall. I did not win today but had a great experience and was pleased with his choices

Showed labs to Mr. Noe. He seemed to think the most important trait is expression! What about structure & movement? Why does a lab need expression when he's retrieving a duck?! During setter judging he carried on a conversation with his buddy judge in the next ring while exhibitors had their dogs stacked. Steward finally had to come and get him. He did this twice during the same breed. Will never show to him again.

If you are looking for a Judge who is pleasant to exhibitors and sweet with the dogs, this is your man. If you are looking for a Judge who judges dogs and can find quality, save your time and money.

In Herding, takes really good care of the Sheltie & Collie, usually leaving 2 ribbons for the other breeds to gopher.

Very pleasant in the ring but if you have color forget it. We had my Harl girl a beautiful Mantle girl and a beautiful nature ear Merle we were all at the front and he never made his way up to the front in WB not even giving us a glance. He seemed to like fawns only. He is on my DNS list because I have color. He will put up owner handle for those with fawns.

Showed an owner handled Frenchie to him first then owner handled Bullmastiff an hour later. He was pleasant and provided clear direction. When my son went the wrong way for the down and back he was gentle in his correction. He seemed to really look at heads in Bullmastiffs.

this judge needs to retire. He had no idea what he was doing judging our breed. UPDATE Still terrible picked the 2 biggest dogs in the ring. did not go with the standard....
Mar 16, 20165Owner HandlersWorking Dogs
One of the few judges left that isn't afraid to put up the best dog (in his opinion), even if that means dumping 'faces'. Sometimes we don't agree, but at least he has an opinion and will stay with it. Seems to favor typey, well conditioned animals.
Oct 16, 2014Great Dane
Wow. Surprisingly few colored Danes enter under this guy and breed always goes to a fawn. Looking over dozens of his past selections. And certain Danes chase him around and get repeated BOB placement despite totally different competition within weeks of their previous wins.
Sep 26, 20145Owner HandlerGreat Dane
Gave wd/bow to owner handler with several pros in the ring. He did seem to have an issue with the people who didn't follow his directions, both amateurs and pros alike. I will show to him again.
Mar 25, 20141workingworking
this judge told an exhibitor (owner/handler) that she should get a professional handler to handle her dog-this same woman put a Grand championship on the dog she was showing. I thought AKC was promoting owner/handlers - AKC needs to educate their judges OR maybe this was just an excuse to give BOB to the P/H. He is on my DNS list
May 25, 20133HerdingShelties
Watched him twice without showing, couldn't figure him out. Showed today, thought him fair, judging dogs. Consistent with his placements, typey. Will show to him again when I have what he likes.

Was a little anxious showing to this judge based on comments here. He definitely understands the breed std for EC's. Was thorough in his exam on the table and was not fooled by "flashy ring flyers". Would show to him again.

Can't say I disagree with his selections but rather quick exam. Pleasant enough but not super friendly

Mr. Noe had three bitches, all were major pointed, all acceptable, standard bitches, all displayed appropriate showmanship. The bitches the day before were adjudicated by Peter Baynes. The bitch I showed has both majors and placed third in a large (20+) 9-12 national class, was BW the day before. Mr. Noe withheld winner's and reserve.

Showed to him once. He did not favor the pros in the ring but rather put up the best dog. Would show to him again any time.
Mar 9, 20104Alyssa PaysonFrench Bulldog
I only showed to him once but we had a large entry and it was warm, he still took time with each exhibitor. I certainly thought he was looking at the dogs and was consistent with type. I hope to show to him again.

I have never shown to this judge, but have watched him judge my breed. I can only describe his attitude as 'sneering'. Perhaps he didn't have the best dogs to judge, but everyone had paid their entry fee and deserved a polite consideration. Not a judge I would ever show to.
Feb 18, 20092Woodwynd DalmatiansGSP
Had been consistent in the past with smaller entries, but in Jan on the FL circuit with large entries, it was all about faces, not dogs.

Save your money! Placed pet quality dogs over group placing dogs.

I agree with the Noe clue comments. He works tight with his buddy Frederiksen. He has no rhymn nor reason for what he puts up and I have experienced his negative attitude.
Nov 15, 2008M. KramerDoberman
This judge seemed very political in both the classes and breed ring. After I watched 2 classes and saw that he put up only handlers, it was possible for me to place all classes before the dogs were ever judged. We all knew who was going to win the breed before it happened. If you're an owner handler, I wouldn't waste time showing to him if your breed is dominated by pros. He gave both 6-9 puppies the majors. He seems like he doesn't enjoy judging. His instructions are not clear and hardly audible.

I had an excellent experience with this judge in April, 2008. It was only my second show and my dog was very nervous. He spent time with him to make sure he was comfortable and then stopped me later to ask how he was feeling. I can't say there was competition because mine was the only dog but I would definitely try it again.

Have twice known him to put up a puppy over good specials. Usually picks a decent puppy but not as good as the specials he dumps.

Thanks for all the info. Now this helps me decide which show(s) I wouldn't waste my money on. Told a young gal showing her Komondor that she shouldn't be in the group ring, but in juniors instead! WHAT?! This gal did a very nice job with her Kom & deserved to be there with all the other BOB winners.

I now get to update this with my own experience. Unless you enjoy staying around all day for groups, only to have the cut be all 6 pro handlers in the group ring, when there were quite a few deserving non-pro handled dogs there, save your time and money. He was not rude, but utterly boring to show to, and to again see the same old line up make the cut..... sigh.... I'm seriously considering quitting the *sport*, it's become nothing more than a mechanism to maintain the *industry* of professional handling.... Really sad as I honestly have some of the nicest specimens of my breed out there..... (note from 3/08)...... I was told by a friend (who would know) that in Scottsdale (Fiesta Cluster) earlier this month, Mr Noe refused to give WD or WB ribbons in at least one breed. The person sharing this info said that he had the bitches entered, and could concede that there were faults - but said the dogs were quite worthy. The dogs' only "problem" was novice handlers to whom Mr Noe was painfully rude and intolerant of (one of which had NEVER shown before). In another herding breed, there were complaints of him being "nasty" to exhibitors. In a sport where good "Sportsmanship" seems to be sliding, this is surely NOT the experience we want novices to suffer. NO judge should EVER be rude - especially to a novice.

Good judge. Surprised at the other responses before me. He judges Pyrs with authority. Knows good type and finds the correct movement is it is present.

Too busy looking out of the ring. Apparently has eyes in the back of his head. And can judge fairly without even looking at your dog. Will not waste time and money to show under this judge again.
Aug 9, 20071AnonymousGreat Dane
Not a good judge. Doesn't seem to know the breed standard and to make up for it, keeps making everyone work and work and work until he eventually comes up with some sort of decision.
Jul 24, 20071anonymousworkingExpert!
Looks like he is always in a bad mood, does not appear to be enjoying judging at all, demonstrates little breed knowledge in the Working breeds.
Apr 22, 20071AnonHerding
"NOE" is a good name for this man. NO CLUE, NO IDEA ...and "NOE" more entries from anyone that has a good dog. One of the worst.
