Pay attention- he tells you to move when he doesn't yet seem to be watching. He's paying attention, just go. In every single breed I watched he was constantly watching from the second you were ringside to the final go around. He doesn't miss a trick. He also uses the triangle, which is a nice change of pace. Likes a happy dog and will bait your dog on the down and back with a toy or an object to see expression. Very no-fuss in his approach and his choices made sense as far as I could see from ringside. Typey, clean moving dogs with attitude seem to be his consistent picks.

Doesn't allow you to set your dog up after the go around. Didn't properly check teeth on a breed with a missing teeth DQ. Expects the dogs to bait/show expression to a wrapped piece of candy on the down and back. Wasn't sure what he was looking for, but didn't seem to pick the best overall dog. The winners were okay, but overall, there were better dogs. He did put an unknown O/H up for breed over a top 20 professionally handled dog.

Learned a lot because he shares comments if he thinks there can be improvements, then honors that when changes are made. Wants a happy dog nose to tail.

I have won and lost under this judge and have always agreed with his selections. He is a hoot and fun to show too. A gentleman and is not political at all, picks the best dog, but does expect a professional presentation.

Have to agree with the previous poster, barely examined OH dogs in group, made a big deal of baiting the dogs on the down & back but didn't use any of the few (very few) that showed any animation or expression with his baiting.

Could not take the time to allow owner handlers to stack dogs Grabbed them as soon as they were in reach for the "exam." One of those contributing to the destruction of the sport by not playing fair. Recently watched him judge a number of breeds and group again. He frequently turned his back on dogs he was moving and appeared totally disintereste in the judging process. Time to stop if you can't even fake it.

Was looking forward to showing to this judge but was very disappointed. The previous three days my bitch took a five point major and went BOV over seven specials. The second day she was reserve to the five point major and the third day my bitch took a four point major. Arley totally dumped us with the same competition with my bitch still showing as she had the previous days. His judging was pretty much totally inconsistent with the three previous days. Can't say he was political. Clueless would be a better word. As he was in the middle of a four day show I entered under him this past weekend. Nice guy but he is a total crap shoot. WD was huge (as in oversized) and winners bitch was tiny. Handler city as well. Really a waste of money.

I do like showing to Arley Hussin, and have found him to be fair, one who cares about the total dog and willing to put up owner-handlers. Just this past weekend though, I found out something new about him -- he's a bite freak! I showed a special to him (this dog was the #1 Swissy in 2010, a specialty winner, a Top 20 winner, Select Dog at our national this year) this weekend...and he dumped him. He was one of 3 dog specials, and didn't get even Select (as an aside, he gave this boy a 4 point major when he was 11 months old, so I know it's his style of dog). I'm pretty sure that it was his bite that set him off as he not only examined the bite himself but asked me to show it to him twice. This dog has a VERY tight scissors bite, but it is a scissors bite -- and if you look carefully or feel how the teeth meet you can confirm this -- but I am pretty sure Mr. Hussin felt it was too close to level. This dog has no teeth wearing, as you'd expect if he did have a level bite (he's 5.5 years old). So I will be very careful about taking a dog to him in the future whose bite isn't painfully, obviously correct (again, this dog's bite is correct...just maybe a little too close for his comfort). I see that someone else commented below that he is a "Fault Judge" and based on my observation this weekend, I now tend to agree with that.

Put up my 10 month old puppy OH with pro handlers in the ring! Appears to like movement and correct breed type. Very professional in the ring and I liked his ting procedure, no nonsense.
Feb 10, 2013Sherry AndersonVizsla
would show to him again.
Nov 25, 20125Mary SmithFlat Coated Retriever
Put up an owner-handled bitch in the Open class for a 5 point major at a supported entry over some very 'big name' pros, so doesn't seem political. It was the owner-handler's very first time in the show ring!
Oct 22, 20125anonpoms
Emphasized movement and head type, didn't appear to be political. Awarded a breeder/owner/handled pom a Group 1 with some stiff competition. Did comment that a tiny (3lb) 6-9 puppy bitch was probably too small to comfortably breed and awarded her last out of 3, so probably doesn't want tiny tiny girls. The bitch was nice and had won a major earlier that weekend but I see the logic.

Put up the best handled (pro) and smallest bitch in the class. Selected movement over type. Does not appear to understand type in FCRs.

Takes his hat off when judging toys. Shows consideration this might be an issue for the smaller breeds. Not big on free stacking or stacking at all. he is about movement. Puppy antics or badly behaved dogs do not phase him. Does not seem handler friendly and puts up what he likes. Worth showing too even if you do not win

Love showing to this man. Always fair, just judges dogs which is such a breathe of fresh air! As long as you have a nice dog that can move you have a shot.
Feb 25, 20124AnonECS
Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Was thorough in his examination of each dog and seemed to be looking for good movement. Was pleasant to all exhibitors and the hat was a hoot....
Feb 25, 20125anonymousPomeranians
Likes a pretty head and movement. Fun to show to.
Oct 1, 20111AnonPapillon
Unnecessarily rude and insulting to exhibitors who have equally paid for their entries. He was jovial with pros and others he knew, and turned his back while others were showing. I do not think he judged the dogs. DNS for me.
Aug 28, 20115anonymousGreat Dane
Very nice man!! Very good with puppies and had a gentle hand. Showed no favorites giving pro's and owner handlers both a fair shake!!!! Will be showing to him again!!
May 26, 2011SasanoaWorking; Sporting
Very pleasant(in less than ideal weather conditions) and thorough.Rewarded type and movement. Encouraged young exhibitors.
May 24, 2011Robin GatesBoston Terriers
I received breed and a group placement from him with handlers in the ring. He was thorough and examined every dog. I did not see any evidence of what is being said by others.
May 24, 2011AnonymousToys
If he doesn't like your dog or you, he does give you the time of day. Soft hands is about the only good thing I can say about him, that is if he put your hands on the dog. He is HIGHLY political. Looks at the end of leash. On my DNS list. I won't waste my money on him.
Mar 22, 20111Tibetan Terriers
A pompous a_ _! I consider him a fault judge, and then a face judge, he likes his friends and uses them often. Some may like him, some may have to be congenial to him. I'll pass, on my DNS list. Can be a real jerk...
Aug 3, 20101S Cal. Papillon BreederPapillon
Forget it if you do not have a big handler on your dog. Split specials class and the owner handlers just got left standing there!

Arley needs to retire. Had his day but he just doesn't care anymore. Has gotten his last entry from me.
May 3, 20102anonherding
Knows a good dog but will favor a handler and the wrong end of the lead. Definately will find his favorite and put HER up in everything she brings him.
Feb 26, 20093Woodwynd DalmatiansDals
Take him a liver dog every time.
Jan 30, 20081papillon and various toy
Was a good judge, but is now interested in the other end of the leash. Agree that he will dump a good dog for spite. Never get an entry from us as well.
Jan 21, 2008Kristi - Bellagio IgsItalian Greyhound
Likes a pretty mover. Not necessarily a huge side gait, but something pretty/pleasing. Appreciates the Italian Greyhound as a sighthound. The dog doesn't necessarily have to be a stand-up show dog. He will give an owner handled Ig a group placement.
Nov 14, 20072Lynn KnappToysExpert!
He recieved his last entry from me and ANY of my clients. He use to be able to find a good dog, then he started finding fair dogs and now he just points. I think he is looking for anyone he thinks might be going to do advertising or maybe just to see if he can tick someone off.
Nov 13, 20074Debby JahnkeKeeshond, SamoyedExpert!
I like Arley Hussin. He does tend toward movement, and will put up a decent moving dog over a typier one. He is pleasant to show to. Has put me up with multitude of breeds including Group I with a Keeshond that finished the day before. Also has placed us with Tibetan Terriers and Sams. He recognizes good dogs being shown by acquaintances.
Oct 2, 20071AkilahAustralian Shepherds
I disagree with the movement comment as well, I've watched him put up dogs that couldn't move out of a box. He is very arrogant, and will make a point of bringing minor issues to the forefront in the ring, as a public issue. I won't show to him ever again.
Aug 24, 20074WOW Pomz & Pinzvarious Toy BreedsExpert!
I would say clean honest movement (nothing extreme or really animated) and simple type (again nothing extreme). He has quite a sense of humor and likes to tease. I've always found him pleasant and the dogs have adored him.
Jul 30, 20072anonymous
Tooth fairy. Disagree with movement statement as I have seen him put up limping giant breed dogs. He will definitely put up his friends!
Jul 24, 20072N/AToysExpert!
He is arrogant and will dump a good dog to put up a bad dog just to get a rise out of you. He acts like he knows what he is doing and then proves he doesnt when he makes his choices.

all business in the ring, loves movement, soundness, structure. will give an owner-handler a good shot. only has eyes for the dog, put up both my cropped and natural danes.
Jan 4, 20073Dawn Thompson
Has put up natural eared Danes.
