She puts up pets only!

At a small show with brutal heat and no a/c, Mrs. Hartinger was both pleasant and patient. I wondered if she'd like my bitch enough to finish her after she was dumped by Mr. Hartinger earlier in the season (I was the only non-handler in the ring). True enough to what I've heard, the Hartinger's are frequently on opposite sides. Lucky for me that day!!!!

I was so looking forward to showing to this judge , I heard she was a good one , then I find out she won't put up a red or apct , she will put up a brown. I was so disappointed in her as a judge and a person . Please said she was the best groomed and showed her little heart out . very sad Lesson learned Won't show to her again. I was told she put a puppy that wasn't groomed, it wasn't even shaved . Now maybe she could see that a person in the ring wanted a dog to certain dog she had in the ring to win . and was using the puppy as a filler . Sad why would she put up any dog that person had in the ring ?

Very positive experience... pleasure to show to.

I have shown to this judge many times over the years. Always an enjoyable experience whether I win or loose, and I have done both under her. She has put up a variety of my dogs, and on this day she did not put up my special whom she has given a group award to. Instead she put up my young special instead, SO, I cannot say she is stuck on one dog or another. They are very similar in type, nothing too extreme about them. SO I know she likes that type. She is a little soft spoken, so you really have to listen and watch.

Very nice and gentle to the dogs. Seemed fair to everyone in the ring, gave each dog the same attention and exam.

Mrs. Hartinger judges dogs and does not look up the lead. She will use an Owner Handler with a good dog. Always pleasant to dog and exhibitor. Ring procedure easily understood.

Very polite judge. I think she gets confused sometimes...kind of a wildcard.

Class act. She was through but moved things along promptly. She picked correct dogs through out the show in toys. Very proper but kind and does allow mis behaving puppies to try a couple times. One of my new fav judges to show to even though I did not win under her, the other dog WAS better and well deserving. The dog ended up going BIS that beat me, and wow what a dog. Mine went select to it and was very happy with that. Just need to avoid showing under that dog! LOL as I could tell she liked mine, just a better dog in the ring that day.

Did not show under this judge but watched her on her 1:45pm assignments. Not knowing some of the breeds I was still able to pick out the winners by who was on the end of the lead. Papillon judging (her last of the day) started after 3:30pm with roughly 30 dogs prior to paps. The judge was extremely slow in her judging, moved the dogs, even small class two or three times. She seemed pleasant but I have to wonder if this judge has reached a point where judging is no longer something she should be doing.

Stewarded for Mrs. Hartinger this past weekend. She's kind with the exhibitors and the dogs. Clear & concise in her instructions and a straight forward ring procedure. She consistently put up good dogs with no glaring faults, balance, and good, solid movement. After watching & working with her, I'd show to her in a heartbeat.

Seems to judge dogs better than her husband. Pleasant & very nice to show to. Great with puppies!
May 28, 20135MudpuppyKeeshond
I would venture to say she is apolitical-it was all about the dogs. Movement, structure and conditioning were clearly important. She was gentle and easy with the dogs, too. I will definitely show to her again.

She was consistent in the classes....consistently off and consistently kind to pro handlers. Her winners had foreign expressions, wrinkles, almond eyes, high set ears, heavy in build, soft, short necks....just not good. To be fair there wasnt a lot to choose from but she did cross the one single dog over for a major - not cool - he wasnt deserving. Just because he was the only entry did not mean he should get the points too. The winning bitch was far better even though she had her faults. The BOB was pro handled but not a bad dog, just not terrific. **UPDATE 2016** not much has changed. She looked for the familiar not correct. Sometimes the easy choice is not the right choice.

Showed to her this past summer, she likes good moving dogs that are well presented. She was not political at all. She was good with puppies and will reward one she likes.

Watched her judge Lakelands in one of the Eukanuba week shows.... Seemed very aware of proper Lakeland type. Likes leg under a Lakie. All the dogs had handlers on them, but she didn't seem to be looking up the lead.

She knows good movement when she sees it. If she leans to PH perhaps it's their show skills. At the breed level she was fine in our breed. Gentle touch, and that's always appreciated.

Did not get breed, but agreed with her class selections and really enjoyed her quiet, professional manner. Took her time in selecting and think she likes a compact exhibit with nice head and expression.

Handler judge. She did go over the dog gently and was pleasant.

BIG, BIG time handler judge - definitely on my DNS list-
Feb 26, 20121bultrbull terrier
unless your a pro handler don't bother showing
Oct 24, 20113anonymoushound
Very pleasant to show to. Agreed much of the time with her placements. Will forgive some errors in handling if she really likes the exhibit. There were no pro handlers in our ring. update six years later--will never show to her again--worst example of blatant politics I have ever seen in a ring. She did everything she could to get the class dog bred and shown by a friend of hers to show so she could put it up over the special for BOB. It was an awful breed representative and the special was beautiful. Her friend blew it on the final go-around and took little mincing steps with her entry pacing. Ms. Hartinger looked very angry, turned to the special owner and said "Breed", never looked at him, just looked angrily at the ground and moved on to the BW, her friend. Absolutely awful. I've changed her ranking from 5 to 3 and that's a gift.

I didn't want to believe it, but despite my past admiration for Mrs. Hartinger's judging, I have to say she now has an obvious preference for handlers and I've regretfully moved her to my DNS list.

Unless you are a professional handler, dont show
Feb 6, 20103Carol DryminpinsExpert!
I used to love to show to this lady, BUT, it would seem, she has taken a turn for the worse in the show ring. She used to care about the dogs, but now its all about who is on the end of the lead. Its very sad, because she knows what she likes, but wont use it unless it is handled by a PRO...wont show to her anymore unless she is in the middle of a cluster I am going to anyway.
Feb 2, 20104jrmomTerriers and Bostons
She knows her standards and is very pleasant to show to. She knows a good dog and is very interested in toplines and movement. Will show too every chance I get.

Re Ventura Summerfest: Found her to be the only judge to know breed type/ standard in all breeds I showed and/or watched her judge. Liked her picks in chi.'s, pap.s, etc.. Not political, will show again!
Oct 31, 20084Vicki ShepherdBasset Hound
Very pleasant in ring, good soft hands and voice with dogs. Will show to again.
Oct 4, 20083Sutton's Sweet DachshundsDachshund
Looked for expression, movement, and not hesistant to put up an owner handled puppy over older, professionally handled entries.
Aug 5, 20085'Lil Blessings SheltiesShetland Sheepdog
Have found this judge to be knowledgable, not politically motivated, chooses the best she can find. This is appreciated in our breed!

exellent with puppies appreciates a good structured one that is well behaved and moves well. will put up an OH over ph in the group. Was very enjoyable to show to
May 27, 20084Competitive EdgeToy
Seems to likes type and movement. Seems to know her breeds that she is judging. She is very polite not political in the breed ring.
May 7, 20085monestaMaltese
Good with puppies, pleasant to show to. Likes good side movemnet.
May 6, 20084PatHavanese
Mrs. Hartinger was gentle with puppies and new owner/handlers. She seemed consistent and appeared to like a good moving dog and appreciated the correct Havanese silhouette.
May 3, 20084Blair BarrettBoston Terrier
Mrs. Hartinger is overall a very pleasant judge. She is excellent with puppies and seems to enjoy judging. She likes a classic Boston Terrier profile, but will reward a dog that isn't an exact match with sufficient merit. She is not afraid to put up a class dog in BOB over specials. I'd have no problems exhibiting to her again and again.
Mar 12, 20085Patty Harbisonsealyhams
soft and kind with the dogs, pleasant to exhibitors. made the obvious but correct decision between the 2 sealyhams entered. (ps mine didn;t win!) no complaints.
Feb 23, 20085Carole RerkoMiniature PinschersExpert!
I find her consistent in the fact that she likes elegance in our breed and proper movement. I respect judges that show consistency as we learn what to enter to them.
Jan 24, 20083AnonNon Sporting/ToysExpert!
Mrs Hartinger has a good hand, but too bad she is caught up in the politics. She is ok on breed level, but if there is well known handler, the owner handler very rarely has a chance.
Aug 26, 20072SunclipseTibetan Terriers
Sometimes follows husbands lead. Can be political @ group level. Soft hands, good with pups. Does know a good dog, topline, side gait & type important. I feel the better of the two.
Aug 24, 20074WOW Pomz & Pinzvarious Toy BreedsExpert!
I find her pleasant to show to with nice hands and gentle demeanor with the dogs. I would say she likes a refined typey pretty dog and in gaited breeds wants no doubt that they are properly gaiting so I'd say more extreme movement than a lot of Judges are looking for.
Jul 22, 20074anonymouscollies
Knows the standard pleasure to show to. Likes movement
Jul 9, 20071CelebrateDachshunds
does not seem to know the standard.
May 1, 20073anonymoussetters
As said earlier - looks for good toplines in side movement - will put up puppies in group
Apr 20, 20075Kwala-t ChowsChows & Poms
Does what she wants - appreciates true chow movement, will always find the best dog
Apr 4, 20074DawnofthedanesGreat Danes
Will put up novice handlers.
