Fantastic judge that judges dogs and not handlers. He is very interested in correct movement for the breed. I will show to him anywhere and anytime.
Mar 4, 20195anonymousCollies
I know many write he is a movement judge, but he really knows collie type and rewards it--similarly with hound breeds with which I am familiar. Someone told me he's now almost 90--would never believe it though I didn't see him dancing in the ring at this point. Would show to any time. I thought he was an excellent judge--

On my DNS list. First judge I ever showed to - was very harsh on both me and my bitch. That’s no way to bring new people into the sport. My bitch was nice show quality but not a CH in a very competitive breed. I purchased her to learn to show and for other AKC sports. Due to a severe puppy injury, showing her was delayed, so she had NO ring experience that day, versus older competitors. She went BOW several times under other judges. If only BIS dogs showed, this sport wouldn’t exist. That initial negative experience really soured me about showing, even tho only 1 or 2 judges have been that rude to me since. I only show because I’m a breeder.

This judge has fun with his job. I won under him & an owner/handler, but do believe that he does look at the other end of the lead.

He is fun and easy to show to. Nice with people. Will put up good dog regardless of handler. Watched him judging several breeds and terrier group this weekend and agree with most of placements. But yes, he literally can jump around the dogs... be ready. Not every dog will OK that.

Fun to show to, clear ring procedure, kind to exhibitors, will always show to.
Jun 3, 20164Audra LynnChinese Cresteds
We totally disagree on Chinese Cresteds but he is super fun to show to. He makes me smile with his jumping around. He is very animated and looks like he's having a great time! Even though he never seems to like my dogs I still bring him an entry if it's local because he's fun and it's a great experience for the dogs.
May 24, 20163AnonChinese crested
Not sure he could pick a good crested to save his life but he sure is fun to watch in the ring. He jumps around dances sings. Love watching him and he loves what he does!
May 2, 20165marta illingsporting
Consistent, pleasant, "animated" in the ring.

I am here to say he is not a handler judge. I am an owner-handler of a special and he gave us breed over several pro handlers including at least one top handler. I had not shown the dog in three years and went out to a local show. I would show under him and recommend him in a heartbeat.
Sep 12, 20122AnonymousSporting
This is a handler judge all the way...I used to think Owner.Handlers had a chance with him but not any longer. Please don't waste your money.

Not sure I have ever shown to him in breed, but he was fun to watch doing best puppy in show last weekend... obviously had a good time.
Jul 14, 20115ZirkCRRottweiler
Had a wonderful experience with this judge. Showed my 9 month old bitch to him. When I walked into the ring, he asked me, "where did you get that beautiful bitch?". Proceeded to give her BOB (over a nice special) and a Group 2. AND BPIG. Not afraid to put up owner/handlers or puppies, like others have mentioned. Would show to this judge anytime

It's obvious he enjoys judging, he is a real breath of fresh air. In watching him judge over the course of a weekend he was clear in his ring procedures, fair, consistent and not at all political. He never once looked outside of his ring or up the lead to the handler. He was concentrating very hard on the DOGS! He likes clean, effortless movement but he was definitely looking for the total package. He will give you and your dog every opportunity to do your best. Win or loose I know it will be an honest opinion of my dog, he will always get an entry from me.
Jan 24, 20114DWPEMS
Do not take him an overdone specimen of your breed - He wants a refined bitch and a handsome dog, but does not use oversized - will use a class entry over specials just because he can, but only when deserved.
May 12, 20103anonGoldens
Jumping Joe! He's happy, seems to know what HE likes. Not very political, but can be sometimes. However, he likes movement.
May 6, 20102anonymousBoston Terriers
Does not seem to know the breed standard. Does not care about movement or breed type. Seems to like blocky looking Boston Terriers even if they do not move properly and exhibit extreme shyness. He is on my DNS list.

Mr Gregory is wonderful to watch and knows a good dog. He rewards those that show their dogs well and have a good dog to show. He will put up puppies and compliments those dogs that he truly appreciates. I will go out of my way to show to him again.

Very pleasant to show to, one of my all time favorite all rounders. To say he enjoys judging is an understatement. Is very good with puppies. Always in the ballpark with his winners. Will put up owner handlers.
Sep 21, 20085AnonymousDachshund
Very pleasant experience. Thorough exam on the table, but quick and decisive. Very "human" and made me feel comfortable in the ring with a positive comment about my dog when giving me the ribbons. End of the leash did not seem to matter.
Jun 30, 20085Ardenvale BoxersBoxers
Very good judge. Didnt seem political. Quick and decisive when judging, but thorough on his exam. Pleasant to show to. Seemed to like dogs that are in the mid range of the standard. I would say that he likes balance, good movers, with excellent breed type.
Jan 24, 20085kelly feickertbull terrier
very gentle with young dogs, knows sublties of breed standard.

Nice guy who has judged the breed for many years. Don't think he has ever really understood correct breed type, but he always does a serviceable job in the breed.
Nov 13, 20074Debby JahnkeSamoyedExpert!
Mr Gregory loves puppy bitches and will often place them BOB from the classes, seen him do this at one show for a multitude of breeds. He also will put up kids, when asked why he stated that he can never judge juniors, cause he is afraid he would make the kids cry. Likes a certain style and look with softness, which is why he likes bitches alot. He placed a son of our dog BOW at the National, then promptly dumped him 6 months later at a small show. Does what he wants.

Seems to like a very nice moving SOUND dog with the correct hackney like gait. Maybe a little smaller than some but definitely a great judge to show to. He is awesome with puppies and gentle with all dogs on the table. Would show to him anytime anywhere

Very nice man who enjoys judging. Kind words for the exhibitors and kind hands for the dogs. Does not show any apparent leanings towards either professional handlers or owner handlers. He gave us a verbal critique after awarding the ribbons. I do not know if this is normal for him or if it was because our numbers were low and there was a Junior in the ring too. He is very good with hounds. Win or lose, worth the entry. UPDATE: Showed to him in July 2018 and found him to be the same kind man with exhibitors & dogs. Very good with hounds. Loved seeing him again after all the years. Love it when I can follow a judge's selections and he did not disappoint.

Put up class bitch @ National Specialty for BOS. Knows the standard, actually measured SQUARENESS in the ring. Pleasant, you get your money's worth. Will put up BOH over pro's. Worth an entry any time.
Aug 23, 20073WOW Pomz & PinzPomeranians, ChihuahExpert!
He is a very pleasant person and obviously enjoys judging. I think he tends to look harder at exhibitors that he recognizes from past shows (pro or not)than just looking at all the dogs brought to him on the day. He does tend to be pretty consistent in what he likes for breed type though.
Aug 6, 20074Celebrategeneral
very animated judge who seems to enjoy the dogs and the people. talks to the juniors as he goes and he uses his hands a lot to sort thru what he likes. very pleasant
Jul 23, 20075anonseveral
not political at all, in fact has gone against the big favorites to put up better underdogs time and again. honest and ethical. and fun.
Jun 21, 20073PrimeBluSilky Terrier
Very pleasant man and easy going judge. Seems like he is dedicated to try to do the best job he can.
May 3, 2007Eden CorgisPembroke Welsh Corgi
Finished my first champion by putting her BOB over some of the top corgis in the country (at that time) with some of the best corgi handlers. Obviously I would go out of my way to show to him!

Joe gave me my first ever major point win - how can I say anything bad about him. I've won and lost under him and I will always go out of my way to show under him.
Mar 28, 20075anonSmoothFT
A delightful man who remembers you if you bring him something (a dog) he likes, even if you aren't a pro.
Jan 24, 2007Galashelties
Almost didn't show to him as I heard he was political. Took a chance and he gave my dog BOB over several handlers and specials.

Joe is a handler Judge. He favors those who he see's often.

Very political - looks at the face on the other end of the lead.
