Kind, appreciates a good dog, does not look at who holds the lead. Put me up as a nobody with over 60 dogs entered. Don't use bait. Its her ring so do what she says. Knows the standard. I would walk 100 miles to show to her.

DNS List Does not allow any bait for young dogs including 4 to 6 month puppies. Gruff and gave terrible advice to a friend trying to keep her puppies attention. Her advice made it worse. I showed several breeds to her over multiple shows and her rudeness and utter disregard for what we are asking our dogs to do in the ring with no reward is ridiculous. I would not recommend her to ever be on a panel and definitely not judge 4 to 6 month puppy.

Standing ringside waiting for a different judge, this judge suddenly started screaming angrily towards the grooming section to quiet the dog because a St Poodle on a table was barking loudly and disturbed the judge. The dog was across the room and while noticeable (once the judge started screaming -- I hadn't noticed until then), it's a dog show, not a chess match. The dog was impatient, not aggressive and was far enough away from the ring (100 feet?) that it didn't bother any of the dogs or people near or in the ring. After that, she was grumpy and impatient with the St Poodle exhibitors, and commented loudly to several in the ring in an irritated voice. I didn't quite catch what she said (something to the effect of "get it together!"), nor could I tell WHY, they were owner-handlers and perhaps not quite as polished as pros but not doing anything wrong. She seemed out of sorts and unhappy with having to judge for the rest of the assignment, with a frown on her face the whole time. Maybe she just had a bad day, but a judge shouldn't take it out on exhibitors. I didn't show to her and was not paying attention to her judging, so I have no comments on her judging skills, just relaying what I observed.

Please read Breed standard or do not judge the breed

I felt this judge has a good understanding of the breed. She does like a sound moving dog and will reward that in the ring. My feeling was that she did prefer a refined looking whippet rather than a coarser looking whippet -- as I had read in the IG ring. I felt she judged very fairly and was happy to see her picks

Knows her terriers. Appreciates type, movement and good coat. Doesn't look to be handlers-only oriented. Strict and mean business, but fair. OK, if You want to take green puppies out. Would show again.

Had the opportunity to show to her this past weekend. Will definitely show to her whenever able. Took time to work with juniors and new exhibitors. As a breeder owner and handler, enjoyed her as a judge and as a breeder. Encouraged a new exhibitor with a nice dog to continue showing and to watch professionals as well as others with experience to learn. Was very nice outside of the ring as well.

Watched her judge the breed during a specialty weekend. No consistency.

Mrs. Patterson put up the worst moving dog for Winners Dog this weekend. He almost hackneyed in front. Of course the dog was handled by a well known handler. I did agree with her BOB however.
Aug 20, 2015 | 3 | Kass Goulding | flat-coated retriever
Mrs. Patterson had a small entry of essentially specials (0-1-2-2). Two of the specials are on the extreme end of typey, excellent on the move, with virtue outweighing faults. The other 2 specials are typey, but considerably plainer and also good movers, and they were the winners today. BOB, BOS and Select bitch were all professionally handled.

She is all business in the ring. I believe she takes finding the best dog very seriously and gives everyone a good look. I am an owner handler and she gave my Special BOB in a very large entry (50) with many Professional Handlers in the ring with me. Picks the typey dogs who are sound. I will show to her again.

The judge was very pleasant but at the same time seemed uninterested in the entry. I have very mixed feelings about this judge but will try her again. Could not figure out what she wanted.

Willing to put a younger more correct dog up over big names. Movement and coat seem very important to her

I have only shown to her 2 times, and I cannot even justifiably count the first time as there was something of an extremely distressing nature going on for her during judging. I liked her judging, she liked a clean moving dog with a correct topline. She seemed to have a grasp of our standard. your dog has to keep its tail down tho! Only thing I can fault her on was she was a tad impatient with anyone who had to change dogs or armbands. Cannot say she was political. BOB was a BOH and there was a Pro handler in the ring.

Pleasant in the ring, not sure what she was looking for! Selections were long, short backed, smooth/rough coat, leg no-leg, all well behaved; but no consistancy except movement & showmanship.

One of those that demands that you do for her, she'll do for you. Had a male special once that we didn't show to her (#1 dog in breed). Took his sister to her a year later, got a Grp 1, said that she didn't understand why we didn't show the dog to her the prior year, said he was a wonderful dog (except that it was a she & a different dog). Pay attention!!

Picks the fine and elegant IGs over the coarse and over boned mammoths. Clearly understands the IG and correct movement.
Jan 24, 2012 | 3 | Karen Baird | Papillon
This judge has a certain head shape she likes in a Papillon. A correct 1/3 muzzle to 2/3 backskull with a nice stop and big ears. She recently judged a show I was at that was full of handlers in the Pap ring. She judged the classes as I would have expected and went with what she likes. For the breed she chose a dog with flat head, little stop and the muzzle as long or longer than the backskull, totally opposite of what she likes and would normally select. This dog had the most well known handler on him in the ring.

Usually a good judge overall, isn't afraid to put up owner/handlers, actually gave me my first points by putting me breed over a special at one of my first shows. Can sometimes be curt or unfriendly but will still reward you if you have the best dog. (I got scolded for my bitch pooping in the winners ring, then was awarded WB for a major, then BOB, she stated "I dont' care if she poops in my ring I love this bitch!") Likes taller, showy poms, loves puppies that fit that description. Sometimes winds up putting the tallest thing that makes it into winners, even if it wasn't the best overall dog but I USUALLY agree with her picks even if I didn't win. Sometimes will exclude a nice dog due to poor showmanship or bad handling, but have seen her forgive it too if she is really nuts for a dog. Have seen her pick a very consistent "type" in this breed. Will look at a lower legged pom if it's the best thing there, sometimes. Will forgive a bad bite on a pom she otherwise loves. Also very consistent in the type she likes as I have seen her put up multiple dogs with the same sire, close relatives, etc.

Mrs. Patterson is a no nonsense judge. she's not rude, just very efficient. She knows the standard and her awards reflect it. She is very thorough and gives each dog a good look. It was obvious that she liked a particular dog whose movement wasn't it's norm, so she gave the handler three opportunities to "fix it" to show the dog did actually move correctly, but the dog was just not "on" that day and it showed in its movement. Although it was evident that Mrs. Patterson wanted to award the dog (with a well known handler), she did not do so. She is not swayed by who the handler is. She is very professional and gives clear ring procedures. She appears to like an overall nice package with particular focus on fronts, attention/alertness, and movement (going & coming as well as side gait). She likes to see the dog self-stack and move on a fairly loose lead. She doesn't like to see handlers "messing" with the dog constantly and will ask you to stand up rather than being down on the ground with the dog. I also appreciated the fact that she seems to take her job judging seriously. I never saw her look outside the ring (or at her watch), appear bored, or look up the lead. While I did not necessarily agreed with all of her awards, I truly enjoyed showing to her and will definitely show to her when the opportunity arises.

Berated two first-timer exhibitors for not being "polished." Told them to go learn how to show and not show again to her until they were perfect. And we wonder why entries are down! Thank goodness we had covered ornery judges in handling class, otherwise these two people would have been permanently discouraged from particpating in the sport.

Very political. Seemed more concerned with who and what was going on outside the ring. Acted like she did not want to be there.

Judge knows what she likes and will certainly let you know. She lectured almost every handler that was not a professional. I used to enjoy showing to her but she has really changed in the last year. She picked her handler friends and that is about as consistent as she gets.

Pleasant enough but went for the well known handler with a total pet over other quality dogs in the ring. Puts up friends nad faces. On my DNS list.

Nice lady, but definitely a handler's judge. Will go with the biggest faces in the breed ring.

Very pleasant to show to, great with puppies. Knows and wants good movement. Can put up faces, but generally know a good dog
Sep 3, 2007 | Carol Dry | MinPins | Expert!
This judge uses Minpins with their tail down. That is a no no in our breed. They are to be fearless! Also if she knows someone in the class that is who she will use. Faces count! Very sad!
Jul 29, 2007 | 3 | AngelHeart-Eskies | American Eskimo Dogs
Absolutely a movement judge! Will pull from bred by class, we went WB, BOS, BOW & Best BBE in her class this weekend with a semi-out of coat bitch. Which tells me that coat is not everything she's looking at, structure and movement is important to her. Soft spoken, you must pay attention in her class. Quick in and out but felt as though all the dogs were looked at and would show again under her even if I hadn't placed.
Jun 27, 2007 | 4 | Woodwynd Dalmatians | Dalmatians
Very consistent from show to show. Has repeatedly found the same dogs or similar type in both large and small entries. In Dals, looking for a shorter backed dog with clean movement.
Feb 18, 2007 | 1 | Ardenvale Boxers | Boxer
This judge appeared to be very prejudiced against natural ears. Placed every natural eared entry (and there were several very nice natural eared entries) last in its class, and put up several dogs that were inferior in structure. |
