Mr. Terry Stacy

Initial Breed: Spaniels (Cocker)

W. Terry Stacy purchased a Cocker Spaniel in 1952, began showing as a junior handler, and soon was breeding Cocker champions. He eventually became kennel manager for the Downsbraugh Kennels of Mr. and Mrs. William Brainard, and followed that with a successful career of 15 years as a professional handler.

Mr. Stacy then went to work for MBF Dog Shows as a superintendent before moving to the American Kennel Club, retiring as senior vice president in 1995. Among his accomplishments at the AKC: founding the Judges Institute, completing the breed video program and overseeing reformatting of the breed standards. In 1994 he was named Dogdom’s Man of The Year.

He judges the Sporting, Hound, Terrier and Toy Groups, and Boxers. He has officiated at shows throughout the world and at many prestigious American shows such as Westminster, the AKC Invitational, Morris & Essex and the American Spaniel Club. Mr. Stacy has been president, show chairman and an officer in several all-breed and national breed clubs.

Currently, Mr. Stacy resides in Chapel Hill, N.C., with his wife, Jackie, and their small kennel of Affenpinschers. Their Tamarin Affens have produced national specialty winners as well as seven all-breed BIS winners (with over 100 BIS), including the top-winning Affen in breed history.
